Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Why older, well paid people are being laid off

I found this online relating to another company, but you can't tell me this also isn't Dell:

Dell is ideally looking for an employee with the wisdom of a 50 year old, the experience of a 40 year old, the drive of a 30 year old, and the pay scale of a 20 year old.

“ I am disappointed I haven't been laid off. I would really like to get a package and go on about my business.”.

As someone who works at Dell with overlays who think like this, do us all a favor and find a job you like, so the rest of us can continue trying to do our own jobs at Dell and make a living.

Just looking around at those of us kicked out, what I notice is that almost everyone is a US citizen(it is an educated guess. It is not that hard to guess who is a citizen). Almost everyone is on the older side of the age spectrum. Our org is probably 95% foreign born. Is it just a coincidence that it happened this way? I doubt. I am open to legal action, if folks think, I have a case. I know it is clearly wrong. Sine I am not familiar with the laws, I don’t know whether there is a case. I am old enough, I don’t mind a fight.

In my group it was the two oldest (51 or 53 isn’t old!) but they made the most salary. One of them was from the Legato acquisition.

I came over with the EMC Acquisition and have watched Dell dispose of the “over 40” staff non-stop. They are definitely targeting the higher compensated / industry veterans who selflessly traded their youth for corporate prosperity. They are targeting a protected class and need to have a class action suite brought against them for such discrimination.

majority of the layoffs I am seeing are long-time emc/older workers (above 50). discrimation.

I'll say it: They want younger people, with lower OTEs that fill the diversity buckets they've stated are their top priority.

I got notification today. Last day Friday. Two month base pay, 1 week for each service year. Still could look internal role this week. Not getting paid for vacation since my state does not require it.
Manager spent a minute repeating the reason from quarterly review meeting. HR went through the transition steps. Less than 20 minutes.

From what I have heard, the Dell packages are on the order of two weeks of pay and no compensation for any accrued Personal Time Off so not so much a package as a two week notice.
