Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

This makes me mad

You know what pisses me off? Other companies appreciate employees who bring experience and with that relevant knowledge to the table, but not Exxon. The longer you've been here, the chances are bigger that you'll be cut. It's all about the money here. Who cares about employees and who cares about the company's future when they can save a few bucks right here and now.

"I heard that the Presidents are only just learning about the separation program that the HQ has designed." Would they truly be the last to know what the little shrimps at the bottom of the food chain already know? Then these Presidents are not worth their title or salary, just lackeys for HQ.

"...India was always in the future" ... until it was no more: Cairo is cheaper now than India and better equipped to tackle Covid-19.

"Getting angry won’t change anything." Why not? It is about time that loyal employees all over the world finally speak up about how they are treated by EM!

Do you really believe that the company will care that you "plan to make myself an invaluable resource to help train and support the growth of the India office", making your job redundant?

There lays your (Exxon's) problem: all this secrecy. Management not trusting the employees and not being transparent. Treating employees like children instead of empowering them. That is the big elephant in the room. Exxon's culture is the reason for the failure we see today. One strong headwind, and the biggest oil company falls so hard that it is kicked out of S&P!

@wcm+16Z1GFd6 - I hope that in THE CONVERSATION meeting someone asked about employee cuts and layoffs. Or, I hope someone asked. Care to share? (btw, I'm not in UOG and not the person who posted the calendar comment). I'm in GP. My team have been preparing a list of questions for an upcoming session. It would be nice to have some insight to what is being said.

Actually they did.. lots of tough questions...go ask your boss that you stalked about it

Seriously? You want us to believe that a “supervisor” asked a tough question? I have been in such “love fests”. A competition in s.... up.

BTW: can you explain why your president cannot have the “conversation” with everybody but only with the privileged few? Anything to hide?

@1nyu, pity then that you are unwilling/unable to emulate your president and share the same good energy with your reports ... this is why it is called the middle muck, senior managers try, but it all gets stuck in the middle layer that can't...

@wcm+16Z1GFd6 - wow, conspiracy theorists are sooo right! Not. I was IN “The Conversation” meeting today that you calendar stalked. It was actually a very good open Q&A session. No rolling out any layoffs, just an opportunity for the Supervisors and Managers to ask the Pres. anything they wanted..all topics on the table. Open, transparent and helping the leaders prep for questions from their teams.. so glad I don’t believe this bs that gets posted here...

Hahaha. Companies hardly care about your experience or what you can bring to the table. If so, then half of America wouldn't be exporting jobs to Asia pacific to realize the cost savings. You are a high cost employee in a massive depression. Why does the company need your experience if there is hardly any work to be done?

Corporate Socialism is not social.
It's subsidized and militarized, but it ain't about you.
EM will be ok down the road.

Do you understand the difference between an MPT at Amazon and the 100k warehouse workers there are hiring for? PIP is a very common program for nearly all corporate companies to turn over their employees and bring in fresh people.

In normal years, we PIP people and hire fresh grads to replace. This year, we are PIPing without hiring to slowly reduce headcount.

@vqg+16Z1GFd6 You are not credible. Amazon is hiring 100K. They are NOT PiPing 10%. Troll. Go away

Upstream demand is going to be severely down for years. I think upstream is going to be significantly impacted from layoffs with the next round of layoffs.

So many thing wrong in this thread
Projects never started but we overhired anyway
If we need to eliminate project hands, reductions should have been targeted, not everywhere.
Managers ARE bean counters.
And sure, there is a great - short of course - future as trainer of personnel in India. But only f you are in KL.

@wcm+16Z1GFd6 - thanks for the information. I'm surprised that your supervisor hasn't changed the privacy settings on his calendar (maybe he doesn't know how to!) Are you willing to let us know which organization you belong to ?

Doing some calendar checking for setting up meetings and I see my manager is in a zoom meeting called: “The Conversation: A discussion with US Supervisors and (name of president)”. Perhaps the workforce “study” is being rolled out and prepping those folks who have to do the firing. Get ready...?Nice of the the higher ups to do the “tough work” and just wash their hands of having to look people in the eye and tell them their done.

Managers don’t have any say about this. It’s not a matter of supervisors sticking up for someone. I heard that the Presidents are only just learning about the separation program that the HQ has designed. This is a global, company-wide reorganization plan. India was always in the future, but COVID, significant drop in oil price, and demand projections have just increased the urgency and speed of migration. Getting angry won’t change anything. I plan to make myself an invaluable resource to help train and support the growth of the India office. If I get negative, then my attitude with negatively impact my performance.

Many new hires were let go also, what are you talking about?

@vqg+16Z1GFd6 We were find until “genius“ and friends decided to go on a massive hiring spree to double his 2017 earnings.. And we went on a hiring frenzy until late 2019.. managers clearly know we over hired.. but no one will say no to extra hands.. Older employees paid the price.. as it looks bad to fire new workers that you have just hired at a 20% pay raise to get them into the tiger...

Bean counters calling the shots. If Managers stick up for their teams, they're targeted; so they have to be ready and sure to fall on the sword. How else do you define a systemic problem?

This isn't true, many companies have laid off their staff due to impacts from covid. Hell, Amazon values their employees so much they are putting 10% of their employees on PIP also.

Get your head out of the sand that we should be operating like this is business as usual. Large capital projects are deferred/canceled so EM just doesn't need the workforce.
