I've been in this industry a long time, have survived many rounds of layoffs, and an employer who went bankrupt and closed shop. When the going is good, we get good conditions and perks, especially in this industry. When things get tough, we are just a row in somebody's Excel worksheet. It's not personal. If you think about things that way, it's easier to pull yourself together and look for your next gig.
My heart goes out to all the people who have been let go, and hope your next gig is better than all the previous ones!

It astonishes me how Americans value corporations, CEOs and the rich at their own expense. When leadership makes a mistake, thousands of low paid ppl get let go and with a laughable severance!! While these same leaders make north of 6.9$M (and didn’t get a pay cut bc of COVID).
Look at how this is done here in Europe. You deserve some respect and dignity. It’s not all about making few at the top accumulate more millions in their bank accounts, u getting some decent severance will have more impact on the economy as u won’t save it but spend it on ur mtg, on putting food on the table until u find another employment. You have to better understand how capitalism works, it’s needs consumers and those who create values... and those are common ppl like us, so don’t rob ordinary folks from these tools!!
The whole point of corporate actions is to continue to exist. If we play a part in their survival, then we stay. If not, we go. It's very simple. Brush up your resume and get ready for what's next.
I certainly am.
Great post - thank you OP
