It saddens me to see how many are taking their jobs here for granted. I wish more of you would realize just how lucky you are. Now go ahead, downvote me, I don't expect anything better.

I knew for 20 years I was blessed to have this job. When they surplussed me, I had a flawless driving record, I drove across 35 counties in 2 states, with 0 entries in my record. Not even a warning, I did everything they ever asked me to do: came in early worked over, only to be replaced by someone with 7 years less seniority , in less than 6 months after going off payroll. My recall rights, they were erased. In short, if you still feel At&t is so good they haven’t screwed you YET.
I considered myself lucky, for lack of a better word. But that was until 2016 when everything changed. New local leadership was horrible, rude, demeaning and nothing like the great leaders we used to have in my area, they got smart and moved on. I really did love my job, had fun, got paid well and had a good life. Things changed and I was praying for a severance, when my store closed down recently I got my wish. I’m not here to badmouth or complain about the company in general. I did my job and was paid well for it. So yes, for many it’s been a great job, for others it hasn’t. Everyone’s situation is different.
I was so heartbroken to be surplussed that my three pay raises and a promotion since finding a new job still hasn't made up for the hurt.
Hmmm... There would be allot of people with only one arm standing in the unemployment line if this were true.
I would not recommend AT&T to any sharp, ambitious, college or non college educated young person. There are so many other opportunities to get ahead. AT&T crushes the spirit of innovation and independence in its employees. The longer one stays, the less the chances are of ever developing a meaningful, rewarding career.
At&t is a good place if you are just trying to survive, it is not a place however, where anyone can thrive unless of course you happen to be Randall or Stankey.
It might be ok to work in some areas of att. One of the biggest problems with att is how casual they have become about dismissing employees. With that hanging around, att isn't the best place to work if you have other options. Given that, why would anyone really want to work here?
You're right...if you are in an area where there are little or no employment prospects and you were lucky enough to get a job with the company when times were good and now you're just hoping you can avoid the axe and keep your sanity. Or you have kids in a school, a house you can't sell, and the only comparable job either doesn't exist or is 300 miles away. Otherwise STFU!
There are all kinds of jobs at AT&T and it depends on the job. I did jobs that I didn't like, but s—ed it up, and eventually transferred to a job I did like (and with a raise). And then that job went sour, and I salvaged my employment by accepting a job I didn't like. But after a year, the job morphed into different duties that I did like.
AT&T is not a monolith. Different divisions, and departments are like completely different companies, only similar by having common payroll and benefits departments. Think about it. AT&T's size, between contractors and employees is the size of a medium city. Any city has neighborhoods. And everyone knows, not all neighborhoods are the same. Same goes for AT&T. Depending on the neighborhood, and the job title, the situation could range from 100% to 0%.
No one can post about their individual experience and represent that it represents employment at AT&T as a whole.
tons of better places to work than nw cesspool att. att is closer to the bottom than the top.

you obviously haven't worked in a call center for forty years, you probably lack self-confidence and have a very easy job. get down in the trenches with them and see how much fun it is. being micro-managed every day. I made it a long time but I almost waited too long, my health and stress are beginning to get better every day.
More managers should realize just how lucky they are, until they miss another due because of incompetence and failing to learn the jobs that technicians do everyday. No severance for you.
In the less then 2 months since left the company I've, 1. My stress levels have completely bottomed out, 2. I've made more money in that time frame then I did working ot, 3. Made more lead generation then I've ever done and 4. Have an actual support team who actually cares if I succeed. 7 years with that company and the best I got was a coin that said thanks for putting your non important life in risk for our sh–ty product and a yeti cup. You can take thanks back and use it for yourself.
“you should be thankful for the job you have been handed” is what incompetent executives tell employees when they f'ed up and can't handle the scrutiny from making clueless decisions and horrible consequences.

I gotta call BS on this. I don’t think we should feel lucky, or have any particular gratitude for working here. In a sane, healthy society, anyone who is willing to get educated, work hard, and play by the rules, should have the opportunity to be productive and earn a decent living. I’m afraid OP is giving the corporation too much credit here. Just because it’s possibly “worse” at other companies, does not excuse the BS that goes on around here. Don’t be a boot-licker. If you bring value, realize that you should be nicely compensated for that value.

I agree with you, have been here for 21 years, have a solid job, no promotions but I come to work everyday, do my best, get good pay and benefits and appreciate what I have. Don't agree with all the decisions but hope for the best and keep doing my job, I talk to many in other companies same happens all over, so if you are happy great stay and do good work, if not go find something else

I agree ... they do stupid c-ap here all of the time, but as long as they pay me, why would I care? Where I work for At&t now is super slow and I get paid nearly $90k a year to wait around for work. People would think that you are out of your freakin mind to complain AND we still have benefits etc ....
I always say that the folks here who complain the loudest obviously never worked anywhere else and likely got hired on straight out of high school or shortly thereafter. We are compensated on the craft side ridiculously for what we have to do in a generally very safe work environment.
