On volunteer is just to see how many are ready to leave. The list of names is already made. I think volunteers give no better, maybe less, chance to be laid off. If they know u want out, then they hope u will quit and avoid severance.

@lqz+16Zur6td I don't know about P&W, but Honeywell rejects a lot of volunteers. I know this from personal experience.

The Honeywell pages have been very active for the past 5+ years. Considering only the Fortune 100 companies, we are no doubt in the top 5, possibly number one (hooray) in number of postings.

If you think that "saves" jobs you have corporate koolaid poisoning.
volunteering is just for a better place in the reempoyment queue online.

Honeywell has been clear about plans.
50 percent of footprint and majority of revenue from software.
If you make physical things (ISC) or design anything other than software your number is already pulled.

There is a big difference in how the companies operate this reduction. Pratt offered a voluntary severance package.
If you want to leave or retire, you can.
There is no restrictions to acceptance if you met the criteria (typically just age and years of service).

This saves many younger guys from getting laid off to make the demographic quota
