Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

How’s Tuboscope doing?

I saw multiple posts a couple of months ago where it was end of days for Tuboscope. Is anyone still there?

Sounds like what I’d expect for that fine establishment!

@seeb+16aAVQ5n what do you mean? They brought in army bro to replace engineering VP someday. But then when they had to lay everyone off they realized the handful of people they kept now need to do more work, so obviously they needed even more management.

So now we'll just keep all three.

What's going on with the Engineering/R&D Director and VP??

Tuboscope’s SMT is a bunch of old guys. No age diversity at all. Before anyone gets fired up, I’m an old guy too so I can say that. None of them want to think outside the box. None of them hold any of their subordinates accountable for anything. They only care about hitting their numbers and making their bonuses. They cut corners financially so much that they end up spending more then they would have by doing it right the first time. I see some of these younger managers who are more hungry and do good jobs within their own BU’s. I wish corporate would step in and mix this SMT bunch up. Just too stale.

Correct. Meant the new heir-presumptive-VP-to-replace-engineering-VP-someday that everybody was going on and on about cleaning house here a month ago. Never came to fruition.

Tuboscope will probably survive this, but will look like a totally different company a year from now. Most people who are currently working remotely will be gone. The type of work Tuboscope does requires onsite workers with the exception of Administrative staff. They have a large chunk of sales people that they’ll eventually have to reduce. They can’t cut all of the floor and field workers and keep sales staff on. They will also have to reduce the amount of indirect Managers they have and VPs. They are extremely top heavy. Time to make those difficult but smart decisions SMT.

Yeah whatever happened to engineering getting wiped out and new VP cleaning house? Instead they hire another director ha!

Everyone: "Maybe too many chiefs and not enough indians?"
Tubo Management: "Oh yeah? Hold my green dragon and watch this!"

Those ALT calls are comedy gold. SMT obviously knows better than us that every single coating and guide sale ever made in the history of NOV is thanks to those rgaps! Keep that money flowing to those guys projects and ideas for that buggy pretend software still so bad they just do analysis by hand.

Tuboscope won’t be here a year from now. Bank on it. It’s Outdated equipment and technology that nobody wants to use. The quality of their coatings is not as good for what they’re charging customers compared to their competitors. Ask any engineers at any of the oil and gas companies.

A lot of good men and women have been cut while these d—beat managers and VPs lead us closer and closer to bankruptcy. On the last ALT call, we listened to all of these sales VPs an Sales Managers run their mouths about things they know nothing about. None of them understands what happens in these operations. How come none of them have been affected by these cuts? They aren’t producing anything. I’m not saying cut all of your sales force but there’s definitely room to cut deep. They’re all getting paid to sit at home and they produce nothing, absolutely nothing. Do any of these ops VPs go out and check their operations? No, they plant their rear ends in their little desk chairs and play on Instagram and tic tok all day. Sickening. Where is the leadership and why are they allowing this to continue?

Not sure about the field locations but at Holmes Rd, the shop has enough work to carry them for a while. Rebuild/Upgrade of Truscope that was pulled out awhile back and finally will be doing tear down of the Gantry system and installing the unit out at Navasota.
