Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Have any new hires been let go this week (July 31st deadline rumors)?

There was a rumor going around that XOM had a July 31st deadline for finishing up terminations. New hires had a 7 day notice, so the last day to inform new hires would theoretically be July 24th. Has anyone been laid off since then or heard about this process stretching into August?

Site I'm working at is still doing performance feedback. Mine was originally scheduled for mid August. I find it hard to believe that there is a July 31st deadline.

The deadline is later than July 31 for some.

July 31st is the deadline for option 2. Oct 31st for the PIP option with the potential that you will be terminated at any point if considered not improving.

It’s true. Tomorrow is the last day for many people. You either walk away or sign up for the PIP. It’s a 3 month gauntlet that 99% fail. Good luck to those in this situation. Although the newer employees are affected, they are young and talented and will move on to bigger and better things. For them, the grass will be greener!

I have heard the same. It is unfortunate. I can empathize because I was let go within a year of employment just after graduating. The new hires have a better deal than I was given, and than most employees are given. I'm not trying to minimize the trauma. I have gone throught that first hand. What is very tragic is to see the company single out employees with more than 20 years, loyal, hardworking, who were good employees. This company had been known for being dedicated to loyal, long-term employees. I personally know employees who are 45+, 50+, with severe medical conditions who have been targeted. Medical coverage is cut immediately. Yes, there are lots of capitalists on this site who say it's them employees problem. I guess my point is, regardless of age, a lay-off should not be unexpected, definitely not if they claim that it is performance based.
