Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Any DPCs out there?

I am near retirement eligible and I was offerred "Documented Performance Counseling", which I suppose is a PIP without calling it one - a way to avoid age discrimination lawsuits. I was not offered another option (severance, bridging to retirement age). Any other experience out there?

Same advice as elsewhere on PIP.

Record everything, audio or emails. Memorialize in emails to self all discussions, cc to the manager for "awareness and correcting any misunderstandings" .

Anything factually incorrect must be addressed at once.

Make HR & legal think twice before pulling any nonsense on you.

Sorry to hear this. There is a document in this thread indicating the company would not sever anyone within 3 years of retirement. Could this document be a fake or am i missing something ? Please find link below: https://upload.vaa.red/frTcH#66cc258745639131585ea1e02b44f06e

I am 52 with 16 years service and nothing negative on my record. Recently promoted to just get NSI. No bridge to reach retirement offered. I even asked to reclassify back to wage. Only two options... take PIP or 3 months with pay. Won't go into how I was sandbagged just trying to stay positive and move on.

Thank you all for responding. I am concluding it is just as much a sham as a PIP and I will be let go the minute I am retirement eligible, hopefully not sooner. Fun times! Be careful out there.

Does anyone know if they're offering to add (bridge) any time to your years of service to qualify you as a retiree ? Example: 60 years old with 13 years service.

Same here. Setting us 51-54 year olds to be out the door at 55. Unless things recover by then. I would be ready to go at 55 if I were you. That’s what I am preparing for.

The company rarely terminates when someone is within 3 years of retirement eligibility.

They are setting you up for full PIP when you are retirement eligible to give Company an option. If business and you really have been adding value they can also revise new policy.

Sounds like they’re building a case/documentation in case things get worse. Be very, very careful
