Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stakeholder vs Stockholder

I wanted to see what the forum thinks about “shareholder capitalism” vs “stakeholder capitalism”. In this case, stakeholders are “workers, customers, suppliers, shareholder and the society: nation, state, county, city, neighborhood”. Stakeholder capitalism is a system in which corporations are oriented to serve the interests of all their stakeholders.

I’ve been hearing calls from both left and right that we should start going away from “Shareholder Capitalism” and start adapting to “Stakeholder Capitalism”.

What are your thoughts?

This kind of questions is #gold for #trolls - we’ll certainly get some troll responses to this question, folks who will try to trigger you and me – please try to ignore them.

Verizon already appears to be making the move to stakeholder focus a la “Citizen Verizon”...

As the success of the shareholder increases, by the stakeholders, then the success of the stakeholders increases. This is more evident in small business. But you did get a bonus this year.

Link from last summer. AT&T is a participant in the Business Roundtable and I couldn't tell if this was a sea change or lip service. Guess the last 12 months have spoken for themselves... (Or, Randall signed it so no one else had to follow it?)

Those who remember Randy's talks with Thomas Friedman that they made everyone watch said that customers were more important than employees. It all went downhill for employees from there.

@jax, a lot of people would love to buy American if they had the chance, even if it cost a little more.

Karl Marx was a hypocrite who criticized the capitalist system that he lived very well off of, even though he contributed nothing of value to society.

Worker led companies was Karl Marx's great idea. That didn't pan out so well. The customer comes first, and turns out the customer is fine with cheap Chinese tech and Indian outsourced service as long as it's at the lowest price is what led us to where we are today.

A corporation should serve four masters:
1) The owners
2)The customer
3)The employees
and 4) The community in general.

Stinkee's AT&T serves: 1) The executives and 2) The shareholders as an afterthought. This company rips its customers off, destroys competition by acquiring and ruining smaller companies, treats its workers like plantation slaves, and contributes very little to the community and the nation.

Yes, big changes need to be made in who our economy works for.

Stakeholder is a good concept, until you get id–ts like AOC and ilk like that who think they know best while having no skin in the game.
