Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I am 52 and was placed in NSI.

I am now doing a PCP - similar to PIP except at the end I keep my job. I’ve been told that people aged 52-54 are “safe” and will not be fired unless you give significant cause like not showing up for work. Anyone else in this same situation and getting similar reassurances?

I am sure the CL31 will be ok, we are here talking about low level employees, FLS’s and SLS between 52 and 55

This is not good , I thought you can withdraw from your company 401K at age 55 without the 10% penalty as long as you don’t roll over the asset to IRA

To Loyalty is a one-way street at XOM, I hope the pension monthly payout is large enough to cover your expenses till you reach 59.5 years old because that’s the earliest you can withdraw from your 401K without paying 10 % penalty in addition to the income tax , this is really awful , good luck to you

I was 53 with 25 years of service and I got tossed in 2020. Was CL 31 and a department manager at three Exxon affiliates, and a division manager at Corp. Was smart, loyal and very hard working.

Received a hugely watered-down pension, with no lump-sum option. Monthly amount is same today, 20 years later.

Anyone who thinks he/she is "safe" between ages 52-55 needs to think again.

@3uws

I’m right there with you the only thing keeping me going is the encouragement from a few peers that I have told.

After being promoted then having the new rank system rolled out, my ranking dropped. AND to make matters worse, my boss says, you WILL work your a– off if you want to stick around. I already work 10 hours during the day, log in late at night and weekends to make sure I stay on top of all my work. I’m so stressed and now wondering if this BS is worth it. My mental health, my overall health is important but, ExxonMobil doesn’t give a c-ap! I’m sure there are so many thinking the same.

The ship isn't sinking smart a–, it just run aground. Oh wait....not the first time Exxon's run a ship aground is it ! The last time all they k–led was wildlife, this time it's people. The cause is the same though.....an a–hole at the helm.

Don't blame the company for everything. Employees for basic benefits, paycheck and retirement benefits participated in all the useless things with dedication. Look, even when the ship is sinking, you are worried about your little perks.

I'm 61 with 3 years remaining until I have 15 years service. Does this pertain to me ? Does this me i'll be treated as a retiree and therefor be able to lump sum out of pension ?

@Not trying to be nice. Was not asking for your opinion of my performance or self-awareness. Nor was I asking for your opinion on what to be thankful for.

I'd consult/retain an employment lawyer. There is gray area if you're NSI again next year. I'd be asking questions to the employment lawyer like - what should I document, gather while going through the non-PIP PIP; have an attorney ready to read the waiver XOM will ask you to sign for Pay In Lieu.

Yes "NRE" (near retirement employees) - within 3 years of eligible for annuitant status, whether it is age or years of service - are not separated this year who knows what will happen next year. I took the assessment workshop in March and they said NSI 3%. We all know what happened only months later....

I am 62 with just under 4 years before I meet the 15 year required time needed to qualify for retirement. Are people in their 60s who are not retirement eligible yet being pushed out?

Not trying to be mean here but be thankful they’re forced to keep you with the worst case being you’re forced out with a lump sum at 55. Many others aren’t getting that luxury to be badly ranked and held on to. They ain’t full of good managers that can tell you this frankly but if you ended up in NSI you likely lack some self awareness to see the writing on the wall. It’s quite normal for anyone to pull back when the end is in site and the ranking drops as a result. Just be glad you get to see it.

This was posted last week by someone with a supervisor friend. Looks like you are safe for now.

No, I am 54 and got PIPd Never heard about PCP. XOM is trying hard to terminate as many people as they can, why would they provide reassurance like PCP, defeats the purpose of cutting cost. New hires were instantly terminated, ExxonMobil would love for 50sh to not see their pension.
