Nike isn't about concerned on cutting jobs in specific areas. They will do what they always do, layoff expensive employees. Those with over 10 years who have sabbaticals, lots of vacation and increased benefit costs. Many of them were unable to find equivalent work. I hoped everybody saved a bunch in there retirement, especially if you are older than 50 and do not check all the right boxes.

Those that WONT get laid off are the H-1B's who cannot leave. They will be illegally moved to another position when the re-org follows the layoffs.

Keeping labor cost down when you are as big as Nike is the #1 imperative. Labor costs eat away at profits and executives who are compensated with stock would rather throw us away than risk options that are worthless.

This is the cost of losing our "North Star": serving athletes. The stock price is new North Star. I'm sorry most of you never got to experience the greatest company in the world. I miss it everyday.

I doubt the number will be that high, but people should be reading the writing on the walls. It's not like Nike will stop investing in IT - they will just outsource so as not to carry the overhead of having all those employees on the books.

That high a percentage is unlikely. The focus for the future is on tech and while some changes might happen, its unlikely to be a net reduction of 40+%. Its more likely to be a reorg and realignment of teams within tech. If you are in technology management, and light on the technology you should have been worried long back, not now.

@2wqx, understood! No one comes to this forum seeking the truth because everyone knows that this is not where one finds it. People only come here to vent their frustration and check out what others are saying.

Cheers

All I know is my phone is ringing non stop for contract IT positions. It started AFTER they layoffs were announced. I don’t know if they are real or the typical fake Nike jobs that they blast to recruiters all the time yet hire no one.

I'm willing to bet 40-50% cut is not happening. You can argue whether tech needs to be the size it is. I just don't think they'd add to the number of VP's if they weren't going to grow or maintain the size of the org. The thing with these anonymous forums is anyone, even Nike's competitors, can post rumors here. I wouldn't trust anything I read here.

I think the OP is on to something, especially with the alignment around Mens / Womens / Kids and the likely decrease of standalone categories like Running & Training.

Digital has small armies of people (mobile, services, design, product, etc.) devoted to supporting these category apps and those apps generate minimal revenue. They simply "engage" the consumers that are supposed to be served at scale. Can't help but think that these groups are ripe for pruning.

That said, the growing proportion of ETW/FTE might offer some insulation when fat is trimmed.

@1euf, LOL....If I had a dollar for every time I heard this or saw it in a Power Point presentation, I would have a lot of money: "this is how we serve consumers more personally at scale."

Now, come middle management speech DIRECTLY to the workers: we need to unpack what "this is how we serve consumers more personally at scale" means, simplify it, and turn it into actionable bodies of work, which we need to deliver smartly and incrementally.

No real analysis, roadmaps, success criteria, sizing , prioritization of anything. Oh yeah, do all that (still do not know what "that" really is) while still maintaining everything else you are doing to run the business - which is a full time job. A year later, nothing os substance gets done but it no matter because it is time to play the musical chairs with another re-org. So, when the f— does anything really gets done and who is accountable for not getting in done? But, you will get promoted if you show unconditional support for the high-level "vision" and praise these people every chance you get (kiss their assess, that is).

NIKE IS A F—ING JOKE.

If you were JD, what is agenda item #1?

Asset review? World tour to see all assets in person? Good holistic company review? Maybe.

Why keep Zodiac if we have tons of data science in Beaverton? If Zodiac was worth buying, what makes them special? If they are good, keep it, maybe really expand it, if not, sell. Don’t need both do we?

Anyone know of a JD sighting at Zodiac?

How about Invertex? They were acquired recently. Any info on them?

Skip demoted. By who?

Skip fired. By who?

Maybe someone was not impressed with his leadership? What did he leave behind that they also don’t like.

If new leadership is interim, why? Who’s coming?

How bout this legitness:

NGAP, amazin or pos? Zodiac acquisition, dope or nope? Zodiac location?

Ask yourself, how many tech “leaders” are clueless about technology?

Enterprise projects are implemented by 3rd parties due to the limitations in the actual technical resources we have that are stuck clawing their way to get up to speed on 1990’s technology... The ‘engineers’ we have are embarrassing and hopelessly dated in their skill set.

I am in Tech and that would not surprise me in the slightest. It is a fat org especially with the Chiefs of Staff personnel (WTF is that anyway?), Offices of people who do nothing but stupid status reports, which are useless if you operate in a true agile way. IT Directors and Sr, Directors who in fact do not know sh– about Tech - they are resources managers who only keep asking for status on the work being done by the real tech people - us. Create especially GSM and CF&C especially HR are the worst of the bunch. No vision, no direction, no accountability, and no value.
