Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

The more workload I get, the slower I go

I might be out of line for this way of thinking but allow me to retort.

I, as I'm sure most of you reading this post, worked my butt off last year to accomplish seemingly impossible revenue and margin goals. It required weekends, long hours away from my family and elevated stress levels which I rationalized were ok for the better good. That better good of course being a nice raise at the end of the year and God willing, a nice bump in 401k value as a shareholder. Imagine my shock and surprise when after being told 2019 was a record year for us that my raise was a whopping 2% even after a very high block rating. Later, in a twist of irony and hilarity, Honeywell yanked that raise back because surely they couldn't possibly squander that amount of money whilst only having $10B in cash reserves, but I digress.

We all saw what COVID is doing to our industry and there is no doubt companies have had to tighten their belts but this feels like it goes even deeper than that. Over my years at Honeywell I have seen ups and downs I'm the ebb and flow of the normal course of business. Upturns and downturns. But under the surface, it felt like something was still off. Over time I've endured the 401k match being reduced, and then lied to my face that the match would return to it's normal %. I saw the elimination of earned vacation for the sole purpose of sticking it to people being laid off in the form of the company not having to pay them for time they rightfully earned. CEO and AERO president salaries soared as TM posted happy pictures of him and his family taking expense paid vacations on the company aircraft paid for by, you guessed it, you and I. Mad Dog buys himself a new $120k sports car while laying off 40% of the division he's ruining and constantly reminds us of the necessary sacrifices we all need to make.

With the latest round of Furloughs, we are asked to do even more with less despite our sacrifices over the last decade as employees. Half my team was let go and that workload fell right on my desk while I'm being told that not only did my raise get yanked from last year, but I won't be getting raise in 2020 and if I'm even still here after this. We can all be sure that there won't be a 401k match in January, either. Now, the company has been furloughing the workforce while simultaneously expecting the same workload output from the employees. My dear co-workers, enough is enough. The cuts made to satiate the insatiable monster called wall street were too deep; we can no longer function effectively and yet, mad dog continues to send his clown emails pretending everything fine. Well, everything is not fine. You get to enjoy an immense income while the rest of us toil away in COVID ridden plants. The weekly emails from the site leader indicating more exposures each week is a nice touch and a good reminder of how much Honeywell cares about it's employee's well being.

It's this point where I quote a great movie: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this anymore!!" I'm tired of being taken advantage of and treated like Honeywell's emergency piggy bank. I have made a conscious decision to slow down. I feel it's only fair. The more workload which is demanded of me, the slower I get it all done because 8 hours only gets you so far. I guess if they don't like it they can fire me too, but then who is going to do it then?

Honeywell is a joke. From b—s— masks to inconsistent security policies that no one follows from the door/sticker nazis. Honeywell is on life support and won’t recover. I’ve seen McDonalds run more efficiently than this sh– hole, it’s no wonder Rockwell Collins kicks their asses all over the place.

Great thread, one thing you forgot was that Ceva can’t get parts out in sooner than several hours up to days later, all while being b–ched at for not producing and expected to turn the same number of boxes. It’s unreal the cluster f— they have turned into. I miss Rockwell Collins, that is what a real company looks like. No waiting on parts, treated as a valued employee, not a number.

Describes my feelings and experiences perfectly. After seeing so many nonsensical reorgs to prop up the self importance of the ALT leader of the moment, I decided to make my own. I found out there are still good companies out there that recognize and appreciate employees for their capabilities and experience. Despite being 60+, I found a new job with a raise and hiring bonus, but most importantly, a leadership organization that cares about their employees as people, not just more grist for the mill. Don't just s— it up and accept the unreasonable expectations.
If you're going to go the extra mile, do something for yourself and your family. There are still good jobs out there, so get your LinkedIn profile polished up, and get active in your search.

Its true and tiring what has happened but that frown ain't doing you any favours. At my place, I got notified that there were a few interns coming in but before that I was told to view a video from a certain VP that has just taken the role of engineering. The video was nothing more than a self celebration of how great working in Honeywell is. Such a pitiful video from a guy that was probably having to say those 'lies' in order to protect his job. Low self worth with no direction. He won't be staying for long in his sky castle with a bunch of rudderless crew on board his ship.

What childish responses. Did you both get degrees in how to be jackwagons? Or did Mickey Mouse and Dairya$$ mentor you in the finer points of bullying and being a complete a$$hole that is detached from the reality of the people you're supposed to be leading? You don't quit your current job until you find another. That's being responsible and is common sense. Standing up for yourself and not allowing someone to take advantage of you is called having a spine, not revenge. Revenge is a dish best served cold. The weary people here are not cold. They're tired, frustrated, and have had enough. They just haven't found a better place to work... yet.

All this says is thay honeywell is a terrible company to work for. You should never work for free. If honeywell disagrees, find a new job ASAP and tell everyone you know to not work for honeywell.

I empathize with the dissonance expressed in this thread. I'd also respond to the accusation of acting like a child and throwing a tantrum. Why is it that the company gets a pass the way they treat us? They can take benefits away, work people like rented mules but no one ever calls them out. But when an employee who's tired of getting bent over wants to take a stand and stand up for himself, he's instantly labeled.

Yes, I could just got get another job but to be honest, I'd rather slow down until I get RIFd. I can sit back, relax while getting paid and HON thinking they're getting the maximum productivity out of me when they're not. To the poster indicating my output is 80%, it's more like 40 or 50%. Once I get RIFd, I can collect my severance and a well earned break from the madness. If I quit, they win. No, being RIFd is better for me. Until that time, I won't lose one second of sleep doing this. In my eyes, the company is trying to screw me and I'm screwing them right back. Eye for an eye.

Don’t take a new job at the company for a better pasture... You will be riffed from the new job. If your feeling the way you are, it’s best to get a similar job and pay at a new company. Psychology and financially, it’s best if you leave on your terms and not theirs.

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this anymore!!" is what I said to the temp manager of our group who had no clue of what we do at Glendale Space. When he moved-on a month later he stabbed (had HR terminate me after 38 yrs) me in the back. I got more than most of you when you leave , as a police escort out the plant to my car . Yes I got "special treatment".

They will squeeze until there is a major program failure or major milestones miss. I hate to say it, but everytime they cut people, but milestones were still met, they view it as they must still have too many people.

Welcome to the new reality at honeywell. I was was riffed at the end of May and I have never been happier. No more wondering what HW leaders have up their sleeves or where they have their hands ( in my pockets) . Madsen has ruined aero and it was very predictable. Look he he hired, young inexperienced leaders that have nhi o clue how to manage people. They nod their heads though.....key criteria for the job. I joined HW back in the mid 2000s when there were some actual leaders, they don't exist there anymore. Get out, you will not regret it!

Everyone is affected by the pandemic. However how Honeywell leadership conducts itself during the crisis- showing greed, plain indifference and total disconnection from the plight of workers (what kind of leader insists that folks still show up at the office in the middle of a pandemic because he hates remote work?) The $6B (?) covid care loan is supposed to help workers from being laid off, furloughed.

Tired Employee, you are not alone in how you feel. I keep comparing how we were treated during the recession to how we are treated now. Then, I felt like they valued us, and justified the sacrifices they imposed. Technical concerns and quality still mattered. Now... it is just soul crushing. To have a raise given then taken way hurt more than the years of no raises. I would have fired whoever was responsible for the furlough kerfuffle because of how damaging that was to what little morale remained. I waste so much time finding technical experts to collaborate with because we've been gutted so bad that saying we're swiss chees would be an improvement. I have so much work on my plate, it seems the only thing left is to either give up and stop caring or accept that honeywell will drive my blood pressure to deadly levels.
I will no longer work 50-60 hrs because of aero's self inflicted wounds. Let that profit margim fall as much as my pay check did.

Honeywell loves masks. The only thing better would be stormtrooper helmets. We are all just anonymous drones doing the empire’s bidding.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Honeywell now gets 40 hours each week from me and nothing more. I've gone so far above and beyond with no return over the past decade. Not anymore. Now, I use the hours that I previously donated to the upper management bonus fund to finding my next opportunity. It's only a matter of time now and I'm not the only one. It's truly sad what Honeywell has become.

Everyone is looking for another job. Until you have an offer from another company that treats your better. It's a brain drain that's been going on for years. But the writing is on the wall.

You are not alone in this thought that management/corporate is disconnected from the efforts of the seasoned individual contributors, and the value that you all provide. I have provided many years of service in the Aero sector, and have also witnessed the shift from being a engineering run company that was build on a reputation of technical excellence and customer commitment, to catering to Wall-street, where short-term gains held the highest priority. I am thankful for the learned tools of crisis management, and use them as I plan my future. I feel you also are of a similar mold and suggest that you build a recovery plan to pursue. Safe travels to you Tired employee.

Went through the same thing in SPS. I thought I would be one of the last people to be let go because of my work load and contributions. Yet I was Rif'ed. Those hanging on if the are not looking for something else are fooling themselves.
