Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

There is a 20% chance you work for a "Needs improvement" executive

In XOM system, 50% of senior executives are ranked in the bottom half. The forced ranking works the same way. This senior rank group has zero professionals in it. At that level, 70% of compensation comes from cash bonus (20%) and Restricted stock (50%). bottom 20% get none of these incentives, so when executives drop, compensation takes a major hit.

Note: there is a 50% chance you work for a bottom half executive and a 20% chance you work for a Needs improvement executive.

Even top 20% need significant improvement and are complete failure.

It is a global business, nearly 40% of executives are Non-American, with more than half of employees outside US

Interesting but I have not heard of Executives at XOM from any of those schools and doubt the schools are the issue. We promote a culture of narcissism.

The reason there is a 50% chance that one would work for a bottom half executive is because the executives in XOM are incompetent paper pushing bureaucrats from 2nd tier colleges like BYU, LSU and Texas Tech, majorly lacking in intellectual horsepower!
They get promoted because they demonstrate:

  1. that they can follow orders even if it means jumping over the cliff
  2. manage mo–ns upwards and never ask difficult questions of their bosses
  3. lessen their cognitive dissonance by identifying other "hi-potential" mo–ns like themselves
