I’m not disagreeing that unless you are inside the club, then anything from the company will keep you comfortable in retirement
Just saying that retirement is the stated purpose.
And there are legal ramifications of that.
"In many jurisdictions, ER is taxed on a concessional basis (meaning you get some reduction) because it’s meant to keep you self-sufficient in retirement. "
I truly would be amazed if the ER package is meant to keep any non-exec self-sufficient in retirement.
I do agree that if you voluntarily take the ER, it's highly unlikely you could get unemployment. You're basically quitting for money.
Why would you ask that here?
It obviously depends on the state and country you’re from.
The hint is in the name - early RETIREMENT.
In many jurisdictions, ER is taxed on a concessional basis (meaning you get some reduction) because it’s meant to keep you self-sufficient in retirement. Taking a follow-on job can affect that discount. So, why in hell would they allow you to triple dip by also claiming unemployment?
Wonder if employees who get ER can also claim unemployment?
If one accepts ER do they also qualify for CA unemployment benefits?
Has anyone heard what the package might be for ER?
No, not released - will be in the email on Tuesday.
My assumption is if you don't qualify for ER nor Paycut then chances are you will be on the chopping block of October
No, you can CHOOSE ER if you are offered. You can CHOOSE 80% work no matter what - it's YOUR CHOICE.
Then (it doesn't matter if you are on 80% or not) if they want to whack you, you'll get note on Oct 7.
ER, Paycut and LR. All of which are pre- identified. So I doubt you can take paycut and assume you won't be hit with layoffs cause they (management) determine who qualifies for what. My assumption is if you don't qualify for ER nor Paycut then chances are you will be on the chopping block of October- at least a good percentage of us will be.

What happens to RSU's if you take ER?
I am 29 years old, I will take Phase 1.
If someone takes phase two (pay cut), will still be got LR on phase three?
Hearing that ER package will be far less vs. 2011. So, may not be such an easy decision.
I bet I have worked for Cisco longer than you. lol.
They did not mention any details about the package itself. Only that you would receive an email on Tuesday. I am 57 and have 17 years with the company. I know I will get an email. But if it is not worth it to ER, I will roll the dice, and go for option 3.
That's not even as good as the last ER. I heard this one would be better due to Covid. lol
If you really worked for Cisco, you'd know where to find the replay
Hearing 2 year Cobra, 5 months for the first 10 years and then one month for every year after that...
Has anyone heard what the package might be for ER?
Thank god I resigned last week in the nick of time before this sh–e hit the fan!
Packages start out big and get smaller as you go. Phase One decision is important for direction of your career.
If you are eligible for Phase One/ER, will hit your inbox next Tuesday. 2 weeks to accept for decline. Then on to Phase Two and Three (LR).
