So my store has made excuses over who is now a captain. We assumed all leads would just be called captains but that’s not the case. They have told us that former price change lead is not a captain because it is a part time job but our Former receiving team lead is now the dock captain even though we all know that job at our store has always been part time as well. Does anyone have any insite into this. Are we being lied to? Is this just an excuse? Please give me your feedback.

In my store, captains are put on the executive schedule for opening and closing-especially one guy who closes every single night-and are going to be issued tablets to carry around. Is all of this expected from captains or is this overboard?
So they’re just associates who are required to still open and close the store as a normal manager. Seems fair
I heard they just took away all the captain titles (or are planning to). Not sure if it's an individual store decision or company wide, though.
Captains are regular associates. Always have been always will be as far as coding in the system and a little more pay, that’s the difference. Now, only visual and receiving captains considered “captains”. Everyone else in the system is a regular ft/pt associate as far as job coding and they let most retain their hourly rates. On paper, you’re REGULAR associates. That’s the truth.
Titles actually mean a lot on your resume. If you ever have a need to post your resume in job search, job title is most recognized. Most retailers have focused on generic titles in the past several years for most compatibale search. Your job title is the very most important in on line applications. Your responsibilities are recognized afterward in the algarythm.
As long as you don't lose your pay, who cares? Titles don't mean anything anyway, it's the pay that matters.
I was a pricing lead...now I’m a pricing captain so it may vary from store to store.
Macy's wants its customers to believe they are still Macy's. Reality... from an employee perspective, they are now nothing more than Walmart or Target.

When your on a sinking ship...everyone is the same ...just a number comrade.
It's just a label. Leadership isn't given, it isn't earned, it is assumed. If your pay is the same, why get hungup on it? Less associates means you need less chiefs.
The 2 full time merchandise leads in our store both with 25 plus years of service are now just associates. The Captains are the former visual manager with 6 months of service in our store and the former jewelry clerical with 1 year of service. I was one of those leads and was just told my title was dropped. The only good thing is my pay stayed the same. Looking forward to retirement in a few years.
