Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Honest question

(Not looking for negativity please..just real answers) since going to merchandising please tell me in your club who and which shift is responsible for what? Seems to be some confusion. Im talking about mixed pallets, plastic bales, audits, zoning, stocking (and which areas like hardlines, drinks, endcaps, dogfood etc) cim locations, steel accuracy, dropping beer and wine, sweeping, gas station breaks etc..thank you in advance!

In my club.. both shifts are short handed but I've noticed the am crew is responsible for all the 120something pallets Dropped..plus ALL MIXED PALLETS..OYI..ALL AUDITS..ALL PLASTIC BALES..AND ZONING..HBA..they do endcaps and dog food usually that pm shift is supposed to do and clean up and sweep after pm shift..they like to leave empty pallets..pallet jacks..pallets stocked but not wrapped and or tagged..NIGHT SHIFT DOES WATER AND PAPER AND HAS THE WHOLE CLUB BELIEVING AM DOES NOTHING🤣 its a joke.

Each club is different it took us about 6 months to figure out what works best for our club. Our 2 crews actually work well with each other but from the start they were told if you complain about the other crew you will have to go work on that crew to see what they go thru on a daily basis. When others switch crews the for thing they say is oh we didnt know you guys had to do this and that and it actually has helped.

Our pm crew stocks dog food, janitorial, laundry, baby, paper, juice/water, HBA, domestics, Cooler and 48. When we arrive, we have to work out all consolidated pallets, then zone the entire club, and finally able to start stocking when all of the members leave, which usually isn’t until after 8:30pm. Plastic bales are done by both shifts.

It is difficult, because in a perfect world where there are no call offs and everything runs smoothly, the pm crew can get zoning done and get assigned stocking areas done. Then am crew can come in and stock their assigned areas. But with so many call offs the pm crew gets pulled to cover everywhere and they cannot get zoning or stocking done, which leaves the am crew in the ditch. Sandwich bales done as needed by either crew. Merchandisers are told what areas to stock or zone by the Coach’s, and so it is always a war between the two shifts, because neither shift has a clue what the other shift has to deal with on a daily basis. They all think the “other” shift isn’t doing their job, but if they worked the opposite shift they would realize that each shift has serious challenges everyday.

I work the 3 to 11:30 we zone the whole club, stock pop, water, juice, pet food, janitorial, clothing, and paper. we also help with the front if needed. plastic bales are made when needed as far as i know not one shift is responsible . At my club the 4 am 1230 are not held accountable for doing areas that are not touched by my shift.

it is hard to answer without sounding negative. In reality there may be a "supposed to be " way but if your club is like mine the managers repurpose workers however they see fit. Our afternoon shift does a good job with pop/water. Sometimes do ok with dog food and paper and detergent. But more often than not the morning shift is doing stuff that should have been done the evening before. Morning folks usually do all mixed and alcohol skids. mornings do most plastic bales and until club pickup became its own thing mornings had to do nearly all orders. Just this past friday we were told we had to have all orders done through 4 oclock even though we leave at 12:30. Rarely does the evening shift drop enough skids to stock or they drop things we do not need. They are not held to the same standards as mornings. Still like I said it just depends on your own managers as to how things will run. TRAINING is a big big big thing if things are going to run well.

I work the 3pm till 11:30pm. At my club, my shift is responsible for zoning all areas as soon as we start. When the store closes, we stock Paper, half of hardlines, soda water juices and freezers. We also have to drop for the morning crew and frito lay. The 4am crew does the other half of hardlines, candy, seasonal and grocery. They also have to stock freezers. We were also helping with club pickup but since that area became its own department, we don’t have to go there anymore.
