Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Global Tech no longer in scope for CDA

I was told by a source who was on a call with HR and Tech Comms and an HR person let it slip that Global Tech was no longer a part of CDA so we can move forward with key planning. The other HR gal shot her a weird look so my friend picked up on that. My source then confirmed with another person in Comms and it was confirmed. Reasoning is that given we have new leaders we need to give them more time to stabilize their teams, with potential smaller scale changes down the road. Also given all other departments are shifting they didn’t want tech impacted given the importance we play during Covid/WFH.

Anyone else hear this?? Thoughts??

@6avt, it is also a sh– ton of S bands not just E bands. At the same time, many U bands too. The point is: band is irrelevant; quality people is what we need not a–holes who only care about getting a promotion at others’ expense.

Yes, I’ve heard GT is a parallel track to CDA. I’ve also heard (from a good source) there are no target numbers for GT. My guess, especially given the amount of GT roles getting through the hopper, is that it will mostly be a reorg in GT with some layoffs. Similar to Org Unification. Fingers crossed that’s mostly targeted to the sh!t ton of unnecessary E bands.

Not in scope for the CDA does not mean that there won't be restructuring or re-orging. It simply means it won't occur on the same timeline as the CDA. There are a number of orgs not technically part of CDA, but still subject to re-org work.

I've seen several new Global Tech jobs posted on LinkedIn...it's crazy that people would be recruiting when so many are going to lose their jobs.

Wouldn't it make sense for HR to try and match a good worker who is potentially a lay-off candidate to one of these positions?

Given this is a digital transition and given that it is ALL my team has been talking about I'd find it hard to believe Global Tech is divorced from the CDA work.

If you mean Global Tech is out of scope for reductions because the leadership is new... that's another thing entirely.

@2npr

Simple, you lay them off and outsource the work. Saves you a ton in the short term and hopefully whomever made that call will be long gone before those chickens come back to roost.

A smart person would start marketing themselves an an IT consultant with years of experience working within Nike.

CDA = Consumer Direct Acceleration right?

How can you accelerate direct consumer sales without the group writing the app or code that sells to the consumer? That doesn't make sense.

The ‘New’ leaders first need to cook up an original org plan that will get rid of those ‘skills’ with history who can count the number of failed attempts because of its leadership, not the people on the floors. Leave it to JB to respin a 180 degrees strategy he will never be held accountable to. Bring in some Bain friends to help?

Confirmed, it's not a key competency and will be treated like a support service.

Didn't all the rest of Nike get new leaders too? Using the same reasoning, there shouldn't be any change to any of the rest of the organizations either.
