Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

No hands on work - Only meetings

I see lot of junk people who just does clerical work for the managers/Sr.Managers and tries to showcase they are key infront of the team.
Funny part is someone saying scrum master without scrum board in place

TF? Are you for real? That never happens in our organisation. We get to choose which project we can be a part of.

It’s a symptom of too much management. Every manager has to have a “project”, but they don’t know much of anything, so they need help. So, they go around poaching people to work on their project. Usually the first you know about it is an invite with a non-descript subject from someone you only vaguely know. When the meeting clashes, or you cannot be present, you’ll get a follow up afterwards with all your action items. Best tactic is NOT to complain, and not to say no. Just ignore it all. When your non-compliance becomes obvious then you’ll get a meeting invite from some unknown Project Manager. If you attend this meeting, you’ll get AI’d and PM’ed by some poor schmuck who’s been given the thankless task of chasing you up. From then, they’ll require a weekly update with %’age completion, and confirmation of delivery date. Then, at a later all-hands, the manager will be showered with laurels for delivery of this amazing project (all your work), and then the PM gets a promotion. Been there, done that many times.

Haven't you learned when you reach 30+ if you are not in every meeting, you are not important!

People who just talk about work, moving dots around on the schedule, but don’t provide any additional value above collecting and reporting status are indeed worthless to the company. That should be at most 5% of a manager’s job.

Lots go from meeting to meeting. They are either in a meeting, on the phone, ooo, or in training
