Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Hindsight is 20/20

I bet chuck is kicking himself for not using the 10s of billions of repatriated cash to attract higher quality talent and develop more relevant products instead of stock buybacks.

Stock buybacks besides all other things - help to hide stock dilution due to massive amount on share-based compensation. In the good ole past these were mostly stock options awarded to rank-and-file employees. These days these are some token RSO rewards for individual contributors but the bulk is the RSU compensation to the management, directors, VPs, SVPs and then to ELT team members who are making a k–ling while the company slowly tanks...

The stock buybacks (in theory) raise the earning per share because there are less shares in the market. I say in theory because stock buybacks are often done to prevent dilution due to the all the shares being given to employees and execs.

Your RSU question has nothing to do with this. They take roughly 30% of the RSU shares vesting as taxes. Similar to withholding on your paycheck. You will see the RSU money show up as regular income on your W2.

Can anyone care to explain how stock buybacks help the company (ELI5)? I find it annoying that when the company offers me 100 shares (for eg.) and 25 shares vest after one year, some of those shares are brought back and I'm only awarded 16-17 shares (which can be sold). When I raised a HR ticket, they said this is for the taxes and some other stuff which I didn't understand.

@wut+16wwNSsY right and anyone could do that. Buying back stock on borrowed money is what everyone is doing. Don't need to pay our ELT this much money for typical ideas.

Kicking himself? He probably made over $100 million recently. Those stock buybacks bought him a 6th house.

Majority shareholders already got theirs. They don't give a sh– about anyone's job. Good thing the US deficit increased and we get nothing.

KK has been "cooking" the books for the past 5 years. Now she's running as there are no more tricks left.

He’s laughing all the way to the bank. The plan was to keep the product just good enough to trick Wall Street while they gutted the company and bled them dry.
