Man is this person out of touch with reality (along with Bernie and AOC). Unionizing High tech would destroy it in less than 5 years. The wealth (and taxes), jobs, HT has brought to the US of A would be gone. Scary thought.

I searched the mailer.cisco.com for any alias with union in it and couldn't find it.

To the poster above who says that Cisco advertises your job to see if they can get someone else to do it for less.... nonsense. Humbug, nonsense.

None of the people in HR care enough or are motivated enough or understand the technical aspects of any given job and what is required in that position to support such research. And even if they did, they'd never know if the applicants were even close to qualified unless they pulled them into evaluate their skills as part of an interview process. Pure jibberjabber.... where did you pull this rumor from? Cisco seldom take into account any sort of real analysis on stuff like this. It is is ALL numbers driven.
And Chuck is a clown.

Won't happen. Nothing prevents you from creating a union. The issue is no one needs to employee a union. The tech sector is going to move to crowdsourcing more because employees cost too much. Instead of hiring a union worker, they just hire a contractor. Then, they ignore union workers, say there are not enough skilled workers, and increase H1Bs.

The simple fact is that the tech industry is designed around constant layoffs. The money is nice and even great. When things are good, everyone is happy. I learned one thing about Cisco. They will advertise YOUR job to test the waters on people looking for opportunities. They then see if they can get someone that can do your job at 75% of the pay and they see how many people are applying. If they have 1,000 qualified applicants asking for much lower pay, you are an expendable commodity.
