Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Will Ekins make it through again?

How do the Ekins stay around? I get they aren’t paid a ton and there aren’t all that many of them but seriously? Are they essential because I must be missing something.

So d-mb. EKINs may have flexibility and perks, but who doesn’t have perks at Nike? You’re prob just mad Bcus EMINs have to be ppl who are actually cool and easily liked/ social in the community. Athletes in the city know and like the EMINs and ppl want to wear what they’re wearing/selling! They buy into the brand and culture. It’s always worked for Nike and what got them where they are. Don’t be such a hater. Your jealousy isn’t cute .

I was an EKIN in the early 90’s. Nike’s progressive values swayed me away from the company. Great educational industry experience.

Hi there, I need to speak to an Ekin (London based) for a (paid) event. Please let me know any contacts who could support. Many thanks in advance of your time

I've never posted here before.... but this really pisses me off... What does EKIN mean... cushy job... clearly those comments are close to clueless.

I'm guessing some of you don't realize this is an entry else role, with minimal pay. You want to focus on waste and excess, you're looking in the workplace.

Get a grip.

Wow I am shocked to read the disrespect for Ekins. I am guessing most saying this are relatively new and obviously do not understand or learn the Nike culture.
Ekins have been the bloodlines of Nike’s heritage. Most of the great and successful leaders began as Ekins.
I am not an Ekin or never was but always respected them as part of the culture. Let’s not point fingers at who isn’t as important as others.

Anyone talking bad on ekins please let us know what is your role with the company? Clearly you don’t know much about your own company.

It’s tons of ekins who will prob accomplished more tangible items then most of this chat.

You don’t need EKINS with a direct strategy.

EKINS get a bad rap, as the company asks them to do so much with very little pay. Having worked with the organization for years, they do a great job of educating the marketplace beyond our direct stores, and establishing relationships with key community partners especially at a grassroots level. The issue with the EKIN team, is the increase in asks from various areas of the company (merch, sales) to research and collect local consumer insights, or MC/lead brand activations when that’s not really their role. They jump at those opportunities because they don’t know how to say no, believing (as we all do) that overextending ourselves will increase their exposure and lead to job opportunities , but it just pulls them away from their true purpose and objective. I have my own critiques of the EKIN team, having at one point wanted to be one myself, but not having them puts us at a disadvantage when it comes to executing in our key cities, especially outside NY/LA/CHI

Omg thank you to this post! EKINs party, waste Nikes money and take free stuff for them selves and to sell. I know many who have been caught and some who haven’t. Everyone wants to be an EKIn because there are no expectations and the leadership lets you do whatever you want....cut

If Ekins were effective we wouldn't have duds - how well did they get the FuelBand adapted? How's the push on yoga gear going? See what I mean? They're nothing special when it comes to sales. Retail employees are trained through the online portal. And culture comes from the top.

Agree it’s a cush job.

There are retail athletes that know as much as ekins. No need to keep someone on the corporate salary, seed them product for themselves/friends and fly them all over the country.

No one needs someone to explain all the “tech and DNA” of Nike when there is a thing called google.

Sorry I’m not seeing the lifeblood and carrying Nike’s DNA thing. They have the cushiest job in the company. Saying they train all the athletes is selling 2 departments short that work harder than any Ekin ever has and yes I have worked with this department. You do realize that there are departments for that correct? Nike has already gotten rid of the DNA of the company, not sure how some pseudo-instagram celebrities are the life blood

Not to mention they carry Nikes Culture and heritage forward and keep it alive. Should we also get rid of DNA?

@OP

For real? Asking if those who educate our {thousands and thousands} of store athletes on the latest innovations {and accompanying stories} are essential ..... they are the heart and soul of the brand.
