Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Security Business - Ticking timebomb?

Those finding comfort in "Security grew 10%" are mistaken. We somehow survived so far, it won't last too long. Too many half baked products and way too many leaders leading those half baked products, more managers and "leaders" than the engineers. It's all talk no substance, competition is making major moves to deliver while we make sandcastles.

Thoughts?

entire security portfolio is cloud-irrelevant because aws and azure own entire network and app stacks and offer native security capabilities

The ASA with SSP is literally two separate physical chassis fused together. The FMC runs on a VM on top of it.

It is literally like three separate parts. Two physical, one virtual.

Sort of like that Robin Williams "Golf" skit.

Let's make a firewall. Let's glue two chassis together and call it a bundle. But it's two chassis. Wait...let's add a VM to it. Does the VM run on the chassis? Noooo. It runs outside the bundle.

No one wants to hire any ex-Cisco employee, period. Why do they hate us so much? When I apply for jobs, I misspell Cisco as "Ciscco" so that my resume isn't automatically filtered out by hr screening tools. During the interview, I tell them it was a typo.

So many real security companies won’t hire ex-Cisco security people. Not credible and unwilling to learn.

Secure X is vaporware and full of holes. Products have no cohesive strategy in marketing and are simply stitched together and hope for the best without any tight integration. No shift left and no container based security and CASB is totally screwed with Cloudlock which has greatly hampered SASE strategy. Need I say more about the horror stories regarding Firepower and how the old Sourcefire guard screwed it up? Competition is eating them for lunch and dinner.

when DU left our innovation stopped because they put old cisco leaders in charge of security business who slept while zscaler and pan emerged as major threats to our only good security product

The Cisco ASA is just a PIX firewall, old outdated tech, basically lipstick on a pig.

security is smaller than collab and that business growth was bigger and it still couldn’t offset massive switching and routing declines y/y
