Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam's club is not longer a place to retire from

maybe it's just from my club but more and more they are hiring outside the club replacing us that have been there for years. team leads no longer being promoted within but outsourced. once based on knowledge now based on how they can move out the people that have worked hard to move up even managers are being hired from outside the club. if any one has the idea to move up good luck. Any one else seeing this in their club?

New kids coming in and thinking they are entitled to jump from cashier to supervisor to mit. Sad thing is they get in with or of the best nose browners and a lot of ethic issues and bam before u know it they did excatly that. Not more qualified that the person been there longer but the little bff clicke and they screw u over. It is never gonna stop until someone from home office or from ethics actually come to stores and start asking questions. Calling them don't do anything they just call tell who u are and the manager makes up c-ap. Never ending

This isn't happening at our club. HIring and promoting from within. II think this is the fault of your manager. You need to look to him/her for answers.

I remember, I heard our front end manager say they should hire team leads from outside the club to "shake things up." It never happened. I think our main manager put a stop to it.

Oh yes! All the time and for the past at least 10 years...ever since Sam Waltons heirs took over. But if you look at most large and smaller companies, the new employees are not looking for a career...they are looking to see how much they can make and uncaring of who they step on and then move on to next company!
I was there for over 25 years and management started their sh** with me a few years before I quit. They do this to rid of higher paid long time associates, with hope's of you quitting. You rarely find a gm contributing to this little game, other than telling his/her puppets to do this to you. It was quite funny to watch. When covid started I had to re-evaluate what was important in my life. It sure wasn't Sam's! Best of luck to all that are trying to stick it out with this company. It is NOT what it used to be.

The question is not can you still retire from Sams Club but rather how cow dung are you willing to endure in order to do so? Having been here for many years I can attest that the cow dung question has always been the real question. But . in recent years they have gone all out in the cow dung department.

The word flexibility was once the single word mantra chanted by all who wished to retire from Sams. It was heard repeatedly at every meeting and if you questioned anything to a manager their eyes would glaze over and eerily they would begin repeating flexibility flexibility. Imagine a person sitting in a lotus position chanting flexibility over and over in an attempt to connect with the great oneness of Sams Club. Thats how truly consumed managers were with pleasing the Sams gods. They wanted you to join their faith too so you could be filled with inner Samsness.

Spring forward to today. There is little pretense anymore as to how the company really feels about you. You are nothing. Reviews mean nothing. Raises barely exist. The only complaints listened to are those of the favs. Little you do is enough. More More MORE !!

It is true that many got raises recently but that was only to rise to industry standard. Remember you only get 2% next year and the year after that. Soon your 15 dollars per hour will sour in your mouth as you realize it is still not enough to live on. Especially when 5 years from now you will only be making 16.56 Five years from now 16.56 is not going to be enough.

So can you still retire from Sams?? Yes. Max out your 401K. Live as cheaply as possible and learn to like cow dung. Lots and Lots of cow dung. Be prepared to make personal sacrifices for the job. As the company morphs into something else be prepared to morph yourself to conform to the needs of the company , maybe even move to another town to keep your job. You can still retire from sams , assuming they still exist when you are ready.
