Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Life after Chevron

I left in 1Q2020 knowing that cuts were coming in 2020. At the time, Wirth, the GMs and the sponsors were planning for a 10-15% reduction, upstream Opcos consolidation based on asset class, and a retooled ETC. I could not justify staying as CVX was not my career goal. Things have only gotten worse since then. I truly believe CVX hires quality technical people. You have valuable skills. Think outside the box about capabilities that are not directly tied to your field of expertise. This job, this company is not all there is for you. Quality of life is fundamental - and you deserve more! I genuinely wish you all the best!!

Technical Professionals, i.e. Pretty much any engineering field,(ME,EE,CE, Ch.E,SE,Environ.E) as well as CS, etc. except for Pet. E.(a minority) , Are Universal to All Industries, Like where I work now. Not sure what you've been smoking but sure would like some lol!

Chevron made a big mistake years ago when they put geologist and engineers on the same pay scale as support groups, ie finance, HR, etc. Fortunatly for the support employees their skills are universal to most industries, which is not the case for the technical professionals.

Been saying this for a decade. CVX needs to stop favoring a petroleum engineering degree from Tulsa/A&M over any other random graduate from an Ivy. No offense to those two schools but caliber is more important than degree conferred. Sorry.

Targets for this cut have moved up to 1/4-1/3 on average. If I am selected my biggest worry is that they are not cutting deep enough given the price of oil outlook. If they do this again in a years time I might EOI and switch careers for good, because at some point one needs to focus on happiness (even if that means lower pay). Already now I am starting to question my choice of leaving my hat in the ring this round. Like the OP, I wish all well.

Chevron takes technical people and encourages bad behaviors with their niceness. They should be more like Exxon and keep people scared sh–less they will be PIP'd.

Most of the high quality technical folks will be retained like ETC. It. can’t justify to retain 70% of the nontechnical folks. What do they bring to CVX?
