Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Just do it! (pun intended)

There is no doubt in my mind that I would rather have the layoffs happen quickly rather than have them dragged out. Rip the bandaid off so that we can either 1) move on from a badly run company, or 2) breathe a sigh of relief (at least until the next round.) It is unhealthy to be kept wondering when, where, and how many. Too bad transparency is not in Nike's vocabulary.

If the role you are offered is the same level and location as the role you are in, then you will not be offered a package. A severance option is only offered if (1) your position is eliminated and another role is not available to you, (2) you are being offered a demotion or (3) the role being offered to you is in a different state or country. It's always been this way and it's not at all a secret.

@2yde, I believe you can express that the new role offered to you is not the right role and ask for another role. If they cannot secure such role then they will offer your the severance - do not resign without securing a severance package or another job else where.

@txk not sure if I’m right, but i don’t think you have a choice. If they offer you a role and you don’t want it you would not get a package if you resigned.

@ywe, you make it sound it is guaranteed that one can just leave and in a month or two come back. Terrible advice to give people.

@ywe must be an HR drone. Maybe if the company and HR actually had a plan and knowledge about their employees they could Just Do It. They don't. They are making it up as they go along. The tragedy of it all is good people will lose their jobs, while those who have the right friends will stay even if they are garbage.

You're missing that they are doing a reorganization from the top down. Why would they just let go a few thousand random employees when they don't even really know what this new org will shape out to be? Yeah, it s—s because everyone is just waiting around while trying to look busy. Maybe you'd be a great fit for a role in the new org. Would you rather they just let you go? At any rate, the door is always open if this is all too much for you. I would probably just leave and keep your eyes peeled for openings in a month or so if you still want to work at Nike. Probably a lot better for your mental health.

Does anyone know how long one has to decide between taking a new role or take a package & resigning?
