Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Saving employees

This is going to sound harsh, but as a employee and a shareholder this needs to be discussed. Why are we saving low performers? I was told even though I was the most qualified candidate, I did not get selected for my primary choice job in R3. They needed to save someone who would have been left standing. Now I landed my current position but we are saving lower performers that get in the way of high performers that happen to be earlier in their career. I am upset that I did not get a better job, but I am now also in the way of a lower PSG that could fill my shoes. Seems like we should cut bait with all low performers and not save people because of guilt.

OP. What makes me think your boss was not just cushioning the blow to your ego. In reality you are such an a– that no one wants to work with you. You might make some valuable technical contributions from time to time but overall you are contributing to a corrosive work environment. With our new focus on “we lead” skills and “winning through team work” it is time that folks with your attitude are waved goodbye. Thank you for your valuable contribution, here’s a very nice severance package, now PFO!

“ The company would prefer having a low performing minority over a high performing white or asian male”

Bingo we have a winner!

I was told the exact same message. Poor leadership breeds more poor leadership.

I'd be thinking about leaving. Why stay if you believe you cannot reach your potential? The company you are working for (actually it's the shareholders) does not define your career.

So either this person is being lied to or they are keeping lower quality candidates. Either way, this is a crummy situation.

To me the original poster is very lucky. The people between rounds are the ones that are screwed. Didnt get promoted because "we should feel lucky we have a job" and no growth opportunity for 3-5 years getting stuck at a 24 when alot of us are obviously performing at a much higher level.

This is going to sound harsh, but what makes you so sure you are more qualified than the guy who took the job you wanted? Have you seen his PMP?

It might just be management wanted him there over you.

One thing I have learned is management isn’t always clear (or honest) as to why you didn’t get you psg jump or raise. Oh yeah, they’ll tell you what you want to hear to your face, but when it comes down to it, they are less than transparent. Sometimes they’ll even make sh!t up on the fly.

So, it's ok for the company to want to advance and make more money....but not the employees?

Why would you think now is the time for you to get a promotion?

This FT is about two things: reducing costs and increasing visible diversity. OC is not a consideration. The company would prefer having a low performing minority over a high performing white or asian male.

Perhaps the ones being saved are the ones CDO LJ preaches about.
