Interaction with direct manager

Would like folks to share their historic and current interactions with their direct manager. How often do you have 1:1's? Besides discussing career, short/long goals, current problems, current projects, what else do you discuss? Who schedules the 1:1's?

Cisco is changing the title "manager" to "leader" for people "leaders". I didn't know it was that easy...

I mean. This is an easy problem to solve. Why can't we provide feedback on managers like they provide feedback on us? I currently have an amazing manager who deserves more credit. I've also had managers at cisco who blatantly lied, cheated, manipulative, were racist etc etc and there were exactly zero repercussions.

This is hard to hear. I meet with each team member at least once per week. We have career conversations every 6 months creating and tracking goals, and mentorships. We also have a weekly team meeting, and many ad-hoc calls. If your manager is not making you a priority, tell him, then tell his manager.

Hah hah hah. At least my manager does not even pretend to care. Its clear to both of us he is there just to be promoted. Meet maybe once a month. Suits both of us anyways - I work better without his input.

Mine is once per month if lucky. We talk about everything else except career. I haven’t had a career discussion with my direct management for years. I have them with a lot of other managers, because they cannot understand how I’m stuck at the level I am. I’m working on something special right now. So it suits me to stick around for a couple of months more, but come 21, I’ll have other options.
Just horrible, nice guy, but bad manager.

I've been here for a bit over a year outta college. Ive had 4 managers in that time and all of them met pretty infrequently. My current manager stressed she'd meet with me weekly and we've met maybe twice in nearly two months. Frankly, I'm checked out and interviewing elsewhere

I am part of a small team (8 ppl), located in EMEAR and have bi-weekly 1:1s scheduled by my manager. We are talking about exactly what the OP mentioned: current problems, projects, priorities, etc. Nothing special.
