Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Surpluses currently underway for digital 9/21

Getting notices that surpluses are currently underway for the digital teams. Hearing there was an off payroll email that went out this morning by mistake before people were notified.

Post up if you know more.

The 8% figure is accurate. And yes, the notices from human resources went out before many were told my their managers. The layoff comes after 2 reorganizations in the last 2 months and a 30% layoff in January of last year. Morale couldn't be lower for this organization.mm

Many were already outsourced to IBM. Some are in Wash, others in NJ and GA. I think NJ IT developed the apps originally

What do you expect from the company? The people running it are running it into the ground. Buying companies, merging them (DirecTV), unmerging them (DirecTV), looking to sell them off (DirecTV and Xander). No regard for the human capital and collateral damage along the way. Numbers is what all of this is about. In my best Beavis voice, all I can say is: "Stankey. Heh heh heh. Stank. Heh heh heh. Stankey. That's funny. Heh heh heh."

Ignore the juveniles, trolls and political fanatics—they aren’t worth our time and attention.

Most people at AT&T are decent, and have compassion for those being let go, at these worst of times, through no fault of their own.

Digital = the teams focused on the digital experiences (like att.com or the mobile app). From what I hear, these teams are mostly based out of Seattle and Atlanta.

Att.com is the worst customer site I have ever experienced!!! Glad to see you go. India couldn’t possibly make a worse site. Not to mention the 90% cost savings

That happened to my whole engineering department. We woke up to an email before our management could tell us. In my opinion, it is not over until next year. Many departments are being notified today. I am guessing that 300 positions were cut out of maybe 400ish. I think we will be hearing from more people on this. Almost everyone I know got cut and I have many many years of service with the company. I am guessing much more than 8%.

Yes, it was about 8% of the organization and they are all over the US. I, personally, am one of those cut and I live on the West Coast.

How many people are affected?

Condolences to all affected (unless you are glad to go).

Blood on the walls. People in tears. Laid off into this depression... they're going to be s–c-des.

Yeah, the email went out before managers had a chance to get ready talk to impacted staff. Classic HR and leadership blunder.

Digital = Att.com teams. Sounded like 8% cut and cuts are over for now. Well, until next year at least.
