It's a strategy only if you're absolutely unqualified for the role you're applying for. Those that don't want to be here will be shown the door first. You could stand a better chance of fulfilling the full redeployment period (what a joke of a name) if you apply for roles.

Many of you have not worked for large companies other than Chevron and are spoiled. Chevron does not have to provide severance, redeployment or paid COBRA for 6 months. Stop whining and appreciate what you have.
OP is simply mistaken. Your treatment as EOI and left standing are exactly the same: both are given the same benefits internally and are classified as “laid off for lack of work” externally so both groups can also apply for unemployment benefits. If you want out simply file an EOI: the are no added benefits for posting fake job selections.
Let’s see.... if I’m to follow your advice, I’ll pick the following jobs,
- CEO
- Vice President
- Executive Director
- Department Manager
I know I’m qualified to an equal or better job than the incumbent holder, but know very well the person in those positions won’t willingly give up their gravy train. So, I guess the strategy is that I’ll be left standing, but it will buy me a little more time on the payroll?
All, OP’s headline comments and thought process is a classic illustration of why no one should pay any attention to most of the ill advised ideas that are posted in this forum. While anonymous posting has its value, mainly the freedom to express oneself without the fear of reprisals, half-baked ideas such as OP’s should serve to remind us there are those unfortunates amongst us walking around unmedicated and unsupervised.
OP,
I don’t understand what your saying. Are you suggesting if you EOI you won’t get your 6 weeks redeployment pay? Because if you are, your wrong. It’s even explained on the transformation website.
If your left standing or EOI, your last day on payroll is December 14. The only difference is those who EOI are probably either retiring or are working on their next career move outside chevron while those inside Chevron are panicking to find something new between November 1 and December 14.
Thats why they only let you apply 1 psg above your current. At least in my function that is.
OP here. Don't think for a minute they won't push you to end your redeployment early. They want people of the books ASAP. Why do you think December 14th is your last payroll date? They're effing you out of your CIP unless you have 75 points.
Really stupid strategy. If you dont EOI then you can be written in to other job slates. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Don’t fool around. If you want out, take the EOI. I took the early EOI specifically to be sure they didn’t manufacture some job I didn’t want. Very unlikely to happen, but do you want to run that (small) risk of that happening to you?
Yes, left standing or EOI, you still get deployment pay!
Do you get paid redeployment for 6 weeks? Everyone eligible for redeployment if you don’t get selected?
The nut job think that by not applying for EOI thats delays the re-employment. It doesn't. Re-deployment starts on same day for everyone left standing or choosing EOI. no wonder he is getting let go Jeez talk about dumb!
OP has a terrible idea...most replies here are better informed
I know people who applied for jobs that they weren’t qualified for, then got written in to a job they didn’t want. Best to be upfront with your lack of interest in having a job.
It’s a time for you to transition to a new career.
I agree, it’s weird they will do that, but I’m not Going to argue, I’ll take it. . I am sure part of the reason they do that is so people don’t do like you suggested. Apply for stuff they are not qualified for, just to get it.
What's the point of giving someone 6 weeks of Redeployment if they EOI? Are they expecting someone to change their minds?
Btw..... you get the full redeployment if you EOI or are left standing. Does it really matter
If your absolutely sure you want to EOI it is stupid and foolish to Apply to anything else.
What happens if you Want the EOI and applied to a job your unqualified for and you got it. Do you really want to be there. Not me!
I say give me my severance and I’ll show myself the door.
