Late to the party but I took it at 34 after nearly 9 years (1.5 as a contractor; 7 as an employee) and it was the best decision i made. My only regret was that i was let go in December instead of June. I was getting married the following Sept and hoped to have off from Jun - oct.

My current position is similar to my last role with VZW so i still talk to some of my old co-workers. Many have told me that I made the right decision and theyre currently looking for a way out too

Mixed feelings. I took the VSP because I had another job offer. Still at my new company and while there are definitely advantages (including a big bump in base pay), I still miss Verizon. The benefits I lost (6% 401k match- I only get 3% now, profit sharing, better bonus, and loss of VZW discount) made up for the lower salary. And there was a lot I loved about being on the VTeam. Grass is greener I guess. But I would come back.

Two years already how fast time passed. Took offer at 61 and enjoying the new free time. Had planned for years on how to retire early and not need to work. The VSP was the icing on the plan. No more endless conference calls, reorganize meetings, useless appraisals and endless “man made emergencies”.

VZ stock has a consistent dividend yield in the 4% range, dividends should be a factor in your investment portfolio.

Naw, that's ancient thinking. Go get yourself up to date on modern, total return investing at bogleheads dot org. John Bogle knew far more about investing than you ever will.

"Meanwhile, sold all my VZ stock after converting 401K to an IRA - VZ stock price just sits there, doing almost nothing, year after year."

Verizon funded retirements are the best!

Yeah, took the VSP at age 65, perfect timing, lol. Pension, Medicare and SS cover all expenses, and then some.

Has IT joined this thread? It has been a time since we heard your incessant complaining voice, that time being what, seconds? minutes? You're the biggest whiners.

rebadging is making those accountable.

I sleep better and my outlook on life is so positive. .. no more useless conference calls.... no more rediculas performance agreements or writing of evaulations... life is good!! Good luck to all and may VZ offer another VSP to those who missed out on this great opportunity !!

The people I know that push the button and said yes all have on thing in common, no REGRETS.... VZ has great pay and benefits, but that's where it stops. All but one person I know that took the VSP has found a new job they love and nearly all are getting paid as much or more. All that took the VSP have their reasons and that no one can say that was a wrong decision, because it's not you. Happy VSP Anniversary to all that were lucky enough to participate. And to those who did not, that too was a good decision for you.

I’m two years happy I didn’t take it. I hate my job but it pays well and I still have one while every single person I know personally who volunteered And wasn’t ready to retire is still unemployed.

"...the good part about that is I can walk out the door with as little notice as I care to give"
That's diving deep for a silver lining fella, but whatever keeps ya feeling in charge, have at it.

That was such a happy day for me, I had heard rumors for a couple weeks before but when it was officially announced, I knew this was the answer to my prayers, the key to escaping my horrible job. It wasn’t always terrible, I’d been happy for 15 years but the last 5 were miserable. I clicked the button as soon as I was able and never second guessed myself. In the end I was one of the 10% denied...notified by email, not a simple human phone call from my management. That day s—ed. I’m still here, still miserable. I’ve given up on there being another VSP; the good part about that is I can walk out the door with as little notice as I care to give. If there was a VSP they could lock me in for 3-6 mos. I’ll be leaving soon, feeling nostalgic about the good old days.
