Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why do they find so many underperformers? Quite easily actually...

This post is a copy from the Singapore thread at thelayoff.com/t/16zEvLP3 or @OP+16zEvLP3 - I think it deservers a separate topic:

1) you are performing below average compared to your peers. Exxonmobil hires the best and brightest, which means you can perform exceptionally well per your talent, but be rated low versus others

2) since you are rated versus your peers, what exactly is the definition for underperforming? You could be performing top tier one year, but hire a few Einstein's and that could put you at the bottom of your grouping.

3) just because your performed well in previous years doesn't mean that should protect you. Yeah yeah, you did something 3 years ago that saved the company money and got you ranked well. Why are you holding on to that when you have done little of value sense.

4) they moved the buckets to nearly double what was previously. So that means, if you are borderline making it (who cares what you did years before, that shouldn't save you)... Then that could have pushed you over the edge.

While some have been blindsided by this, there is little feedback within cycles to where you are ranked and placed. In all irony, this is fairly true for all companies (Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla that utilize the PIP program to remove employees). Some of the time you are where you are.

This thread is hysterical

1) EM does not hire the best and the brightest. Have you met some of the employees that work there? If you have and you still think the company hires ‘the best and the brightest’, you’re delusional.

2) the fact that the company is laying off low performers right now is also incredibly funny because those are the only people that actually want to work for EM (because they don’t have any better alternatives). The rest of the employees, primarily in their 20s and 30s, are actively searching for work elsewhere as they will be compensated much better and will be given more interesting work.

Also, I’m fully aware that people will comment on this thread to criticize the comments I made, however, those who write such posts are simply in denial and I almost feel bad for them.

We are dealing with a lot of cowards in leadership. Very few wool have the backbone to do something like that.

I haven’t seen a manager in our area that values honesty.

1bbz+177LNnXv. I hope you are being sarcastic. The last sentence of your post contradicts everything you wrote before it. If you think what you said actually is self consistent or reflects how the company works, you are in LA LA land

I'm reminded of some adcise learned back at university on how to get good grades: "if you want an A, don't take the course, take the professor." If tmanagement pruorities are different that what you think they are, learn and bring your priorities in line with management - whatever those may be. Otherwise, you're just putting yourself out of the game. Honesty and innovation are traits that management values: they reduce liability and push the company forward!

Based on objective data the cuts are?
Like having technical disagreement in a group meeting - with the former electrical technology engineer who passed the Supervisor test 3 years ago?

The EM personality test for Management positions is clear.
Followers and liars.
Police and Thieves.

Remember that you signed on to work for the company. If you're not working up to the current standard, that's your problem. You should have a good idea of how your ranking is holding up. The company is not onligated to tell you. Cuts and outsourcing have to be made based on objective data.

The problem is that many of those under performers were told that they did an excellent job and should be ranked well back in the pre-assessment meetings. The company was badly coordinated and looked very deceiving when people were told they were PIP-Ed 1.5 months later. Next time managers should think slightly ... who am I going to PIP and stop the bs ahead of time and not tell people they “ performed excellent” and then put them in the NSI category. So now would be a good time to think about who’s on the chopping block next and not deceive them in the pre-assessment And the next 6 months. This company is exactly what the world thinks of us: deceiving, lying, dishonest, arrogant... it’s not even about low performers, it’s about the character of those who stay and lead and who are ok with those deceiving wtf behaviors.
