It's easy...make few good presentation in the first couple of years in your career, read seeking alpha and make some smart comments in employee forums, don't do any real work so no one can figure you out and complain to senior management that you are not empowered.
Congratulations, now you are an untouchable hipo. Everyone including your direct manager will be scared of touching you as you have direct line to senior management. No one will ever dare to lower your potential as they don't want to look bad k–ling the company next senior management.

As a HiPo, I am pretty annoyed DW destroyed the scheme....was looking forward to moving every day 1-2 years and treating everyone like sh–
The hipo program is a joke. Hipos get moved so often they never have to deal with the consequences of their decisions and everyone is always cutting them slack because they are new in the role and still learning. As a result they make poor choices and leave others in their wake to clean up the mess.
