Out here in Cali, certain areas, were told that some IP techs are being dismissed from doing DTV jobs now and told to remove dtv supplies out their vans. On Friday 10/23 emails were sent out to techs who were chosen not to do it anymore but a few guys didn’t. Being that we are union I do not think it’s fair that some techs are doing more work now than others and being paid the same. And for the fact that our Dtv guys are looking for work but not assigning the jobs to them but to IP guys. Is this grounds for grievances since they basically said you guys are going to do more work, get paid the same, while guys just do fiber and bonded pairs only?

What I took away from that “scheduled completion by end of year” is that by then, they have decided on the right amount of IP techs to keep the DTV skill code. Not sure if previous comment meant by end of year we’re all not going to do it. Highly doubt that.
The email that initially came out stated that limited techs would continue DTV work as of the end of this month and that the program would be “completed” by the end of the year.
I mean IP has been doing more work for the same pay as DTV techs soooo....

OP here. Seriously, who said till the end of the year? We definitely did not hear that part. Lol. Also heard people were chosen off completion rate and quality. Good job guys hahaha

From what we got from this is, it is what it is. We can file a grievance but said that will probably do nothing for us. Seems like the guys who actually did the work and didn’t run away were unfortunately chosen. For the guys that jepped or converted were rewarded with have it pulled from them. Shoulda been one of those guys from the start. Lol
I'm sure the Union folks will get right on that– Just as soon as they get done with that corporate provided shrimp and lobster lunch.

The dubious "rule" was IP would only do DTV work if the customer had also signed up for dialtone, DSL or fixed wireless. If only DTV, then the DTV Tech would get the job. Not one of the 14 IP Techs in our co-yard wanted to do DTV - too hard, too heavy, too much coax runs, so they mostly excused themselves and rescheduled the job for a DTV guy to pick up. Now that us DTV guys have been silo-ed into the Video Services Holding Company in preparation for spin-off and sale - IP has nothing to do with us anymore. Our yard has been split between the two groups and we DTV'ers are just milking the cow until she runs dry and skcrew the IP side.
For years after IP started doing DTV, only a handful did DTV and the others got off scott free for the same pay. This was for YEARS! For the techs that are on the list to continue DTV right now....it’s only until the end of the year.... 2 months.... relax.
