Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Who still enjoys working here?

After everything that’s happened since the September cuts does anyone still enjoy working here? Or are they treating their job as just a paycheck and couldn’t care less? Work has been doubled, pay is the same (at least for me), and environment has been somewhat somber in my BU. I used to enjoy coming in and socializing with my coworkers but now I’ve learned to keep my head down just to be “safe”.

I don't miss reporting to a manager who values boot lick over results. Not one bit.

Dell's new slogan - "dude, your getting a pink slip!"

Bring Ben Curtis back to do the internal commercial with that super cheese, over enthusiastic grin and the big thumbs up. They upload it to youtube and send a link to everyone they lay off every quarter and save hundreds of thousands in lay off costs.

perfection.

Don’t miss working for a company that is up to their eye balls in debt lol. Some debt is good, but da**. Dell bought a sinking ship and now they will both go down slowly.

I still enjoy it but I’m always worried about getting laid off.

There are some folks (particularly the managers and directors) who think they will not get laidoff ever.

Dell is a wannabe. And always will be. The motto should be “us too!” Dell will never be a strong player but they will always cut people to try to fund those strong player ideas that are really just “us too” and therefore too late.

Get out when you have the chance. Inevitably you’ll be cut. Or you’ll have sold your soul (and your life, family, children, hobbies, etc) for the honor of making market rate, or a bit more , while waiting for the axe to fall on you. So not worth it. Go out and get a job that pays for you to enjoy what really matters in life. Dell is no Apple or Amazon who, in hindsight, will be seen as having changed the world. Never will be...sorry Michael...

Having been let go in Sept. I can tell you this, the market is very good all things considered and from what I am seeing pay is much higher elsewhere. I have no animosity towards Dell, I just didn't play the "Dell Game" very well, so being laid off was a God Send for me, either play the game or be ready to go.

Do not take Tell Dell and if you do...lie. they are watching and reading. The person responsible for the survey was telling people I was being let go before I was notified....how about that. So if you are unhappy dont tell anyone and do not reflect your unhappiness in the survey. Sad...so sad.

wait..what..the Dell Technologies commercials during the world series didn't pump you up and make you feel like you work for a world leading technology company.

I hear you. Its is noticeably more sombre and we know more cuts are coming we just don't know when. Always good for morale!
Do I enjoy it like I did 10 years ago? Not close (Old EMC btw).
Given the shift in market mr Dells determination to make everything a PC - Yes PowerMax we are coming for you and we will virtualise you - and therefor a "box" to shift, I do no think the company will still exist when that last cent of debt is paid off.

Look, there’s a lot of big bets being made the company. Apex obviously one of them. Will they work? We’ll see. Are they a few years too late? Maybe.

Clearly the pressure is on, and the pandemic has only compounded the pressure that was already there.

Laptops and VxRail are not going to pay down $40 billion+ of debt. And Dell can’t just be selling boxes anymore.

Reality is the company is trying to fight its way out of an absolutely terrible global climate and we have jobs still. It's not a time for being ambitious or picking fights, just head down work whilst the global leaders re-invent themselves.

Challenge is that at the moment we are still inventing new big pieces of tin when the world has moved on. We using the same old targets and strategies, praying that customers will come back. At some time the business will catch up and be agile, pivot and change.

They need to read the Who Moved My Cheese book a few times. The cheese has always been there, but it moved a while ago.
