Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Schwab is creating a culture of fear

Two years in a row massive layoffs heading into holiday season after promises of being solid financially and committed to their employees. All after constantly telling us no layoffs are coming. Schwab is creating a culture of fear. Nobody is happy and all of us stressed out due to workload

I agree, @vjy+17CEyOPl. This is exactly what's been happening. It's one thing to have layoffs - everybody knows they are sometimes necessary. But to lie about it and then spring it on us? No other reason for that but to keeps us scared and in line.

Worry isn't going to help, in fact it will probably hurt me. I'm going to continue working to be indispensable to my job function. If Schwab sees me as an asset they can't lose, I'll make the cut. If I don't provide the value that I think I do, maybe I'll be let go. It makes me realize that if I worked every single day to be the MVP of my area, I'd never have to worry. Managers don't eliminate the people that make them look good - when they have a choice.

This is a merger where the TDA board agreed to merge so I don't see Schwab as the big-bad hostile take over company... The purpose of merging is for economies of scale - to become more efficient by reducing expenses and becoming more profitable. The new merged company will be better than either individually. The efficiency of scale and synergy makes a stronger company against its competitors. The downside for employees is that as a part of a merger they don't need two of everyone, especially if you're position is one of the overlapping resources.

Schwab never said there wouldn't be layoffs. On the contrary, if you bothered to read the official announcement of the merger on Schwab's website they stated flat out that there would be jobs eliminated. If you're referring to the internal emails sent earlier this year then the statement was that the company wouldn't lay anyone off because of COVID or market fluctuations. That is not the same as not having layoffs at all. I agree that having large layoffs two years in a row is a bad message and that Schwab should have handled the situation better but if you really didn't see this coming that's on you.

The Talent folks are being let go, too.
