Tyrants have longevity at Nike. Politicians, poor people managers, well connected , good power point presenters, experts at BS, school yard bullies, cut throat cover your assets types tend to last way longer than empaths, worker bees, fair minded and nose to the grind types. VL has a leader with a strategy, Mostly all of the above and then some.,,,,super powers

I actually think it’s a brilliant cost saver! Instead of wasting $100s of millions on pet projects of leadership inspired by a recent Fast Company article they skimmed or a trend their kids mentioned, VL only wastes $10s of millions and proves it can’t be done internally. Much cheaper way to scratch the occasional innovation itch. I’m convinced that’s why it still exists. It’s doing exactly what it was designed to do, let off some buzzword-driven steam in a contained and relatively cheap way.
Nothing tangible, it’s another “Nike play zone” with huge spend/budgets, and not required to show results and add profit - similar to most of the innovation teams, especially in apparel.
