Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

So Long!

Well my time at Chevron came to an end this morning. I was given my notice that I have until November 12th. You know, I was really expecting this because of my age. Did I really say that? Yes I did. Have you noticed that a lot of the folks that are be “redeployed” are people of a certain age (60 and over)? And the reason they are getting away with it because they are cutting x number of employees. Yes I am angry. I have dedicated the last 16 years of my life, been extremely loyal, never said no to any request and got everything done on time and saved this company a lot of money. But I couldn’t compete with the “younger” generation. Anyone else feel that way? Or is it just me?

@ovs, So what you are stating is they treated you appropriately and just as you deserved. I see no problem there.

For a generation that says millennials are entitled I sure see a lot of older generations on this site that are extremely entitled.

Some of y’all that have been with the company 15+ years...are y’all delusional or narcissists? Everyone says these happen every several years so why are you shocked?! I’ve been in the industry 8 years and I’ve already learned after being laid off of my last job due to acquisition then seeing the layoffs happening now that you should plan to retire or leave the industry at 50 (or as early as you can) and if you work longer than that then it’s a bonus. Always prepare to be able to get laid off. Wouldn’t you have learned that the last 5 layoffs!???

I think you are correct. They will not provide this information because it would leave them open to litigation. So obvious they targeted older workers

They’ll never provide the numbers. Then it would be very apparent they targeted the 40/50 age group.

I’m curious if anyone has numbers on the left standing group. Are we predominantly over 40/50? It sure feels like it but would be good to see the actual numbers.

ive only ever been treated like sh– by boomers in all my years in this company. tough luck you old f—, you took it for granted. I cant afford a family or a house but I am constantly attending night school and expanding my skills. the days of sitting on your fatass and collecting a check are over.

Gray Wolves - Time for a class action lawsuit. Thirty five years doing the heavy lifting for Chevron and shown the door. Insurance is a beast - wife dx with breast cancer just before the layoffs so had to revoke EOI just four days after signing b/c we needed the insurance. Spoke to HR. Nam Van, HR refused my revocation. Be careful.

OP, all the best to you!

Folks, do not forget all the promotions in R3. They promoted a bunch of managers in R3, now they had to cut deep in R4. It is the only way to make the cost saving math work.

You are not alone. As a younger person I see the writing is on the wall. The best course of action for 55+ group is to aggressively get prepared and ready to jump as the time comes. And it will come soon. This is not the end of it. Good luck.

Take some of that severance and go buy yourself some tissues.

Plenty of people 50 and under are being shown the door as well, age is not a deciding factor.

Thanks for your service and sorry it did not work out. Disregard the vitriol in the responses. I see the lovefest/coddling between senior LT and millenials. As a 20+ year career Gen Xer it driving me nuts.

Yes we have noticed it. Companies have lost their loyalty a long time ago. I am younger and have 15 yrs with the company. Trust me I have seen the older generation get the boot. Most people do not recognize or even want to think about it as it’s not them, but what they don’t understand is it will be them is they stay at this company.

Thank you for your time and dedication to this company and I wish the people making the decisions could have seen what all you brought to the table.

OP. Are you sure about the date? It’s not the same dare that most people got for left standing or EOI.

If you have worked for 16 yrs you are leaving with 48 weeks severance , 16 yrs of esip 401 k with a tremendous company match, add to that a sizable pension plan and you can get unemployment benefit. Oh and you get Heath benefits for next year, wtf are you complaining about?

@bre, not only has he had his chance to "make a living", he Has, and has accumulated some serious coin, is well prepared for a luxurious retirement, and has paved the way for pathetic losers like you to have an easy road because he did most of the heavy lifting. I doubt you can live up to the challenge, unfortunately.

Younger folks are just clueless. Someone who got 10-15 years left in their runway is worth the high pay instead being let go. But is just a numbers game and the age thingie.
I work for CVX in ITC and I look around see just clueless you kids who don't know how to put 10 lines of perl or java together. Is PATHETIC

Me too, 20yrs over 50 and never complained, dedicated and always a excellent PMP. The job or jobs I posted for we’re at a higher PSG than I was in. I was working at a much lower PSG for the same positions posted. How the news was delivered was not cool. Disrespectful to the up most, disappointed and disgusted. Chevron and Human Energy does not add up, 100% false.
I was told to keep this confidential but then ppl on Teams posted “Thank God I have a job, Amen”

If you’ve been with Chevron 16 years, you’ve seen your share of ROM’s and know Chevron is overly cautious about how they decide who stays and who goes. You said it yourself that you can’t compete. Were you expecting a handicap for your age to “level the playing field?” I’m sorry you’re in this position, but if you really think it’s related to anything other than your performance then you need a wake up call.

They go after the 50 > over, folks with high pays. I am one of the younger manager so I know :) It S—S to be old and these are the marching order from HR, like it or not. Can you prove it? of course not.
