Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

So I have to work 60 days after being told I am laid off before getting sposa?

Am I understanding this correctly? Not retirement age or even close so let’s ignore November voluntary . Sounds like between Dec 1st and 15th, I could be told I can get a sposa but my effective separation date is between February 1st and February 15th so I have to fake care about work for two more months. I get that is better than having no job but sounds like a different type of torture all together, like they need to put the screws to you for 2 more months before you are finally free. I get this is a first world problem but still.....don’t really know what to say.

It appears that folks will have to continue to work after being told. I could understand if there was an option for the employee that was no more than 2 months of additional work (leave today, work another few weeks to do decent handover, or if you want, work the 60 days....depending on their financial situation, family, preference, etc. I guess normally cant write policies that flexible....

Op here and it turns out that the sadists do actually want you to work 60 calendar days before getting your severance. I think I am going to be sick 🤢. I know many many people would just soldier on but I am really struggling here (not hurt myself struggling, to be clear). I know it is irrational to feel like this and not be grateful for what it is. It really s—s to feel bad about feeling bad. I hate going to work and feeling emotional numb about my job and looking for a new job is the only exciting thing in my life. TGIF

@1sdq+17FC41h4 Asking here because this specific question is not addressed in the FAQ.

This is already a difficult time for many, and I’d encourage you to show kindness to strangers seeking information rather than insulting their intelligence by insinuating an inability to read an HR webpage. It’s only 6am, I hope your day gets better.

@1fuj+17FC41h4 if you work in the US read the lovely email and click the #>*! goto link.

One thing HR has done is made this whole process clear and concise! There’s even an FAQ with repeated information for those that don’t understand or can’t grasp the concepts being presented. This isn’t difficult. If you don’t work in the US or are just asking sorry but you need to but out!

If the goal is to have you off the payroll in February, will those affected by the involuntary cuts accrue 2021 vacation?

I resigned from the company last year and with vacation my handover was less than 2 wks. As I am a professional and didn't want to burn bridges I worked my a** off in those last week's on handover and to help my (soon to be) former colleagues. If you are fired...there is absolutely no basis for you to do anything more than turn up and drink their coffee. Most likely they will kick you out immediately, as they don't want folks stealing Ip etc. EM don't even give formal references anymore so you could argue there are no bridges to burn. If you are fired...you owe the company absolutely nothing....

I've been worried sick over this layoff for weeks but after reviewing the severance, I may feel a little disappointed if I'm passed over. No new life or opportunities, new skills training, just back to same old daily bs dealing with a bunch off office jerks. One thing that will change is that I will put myself first from now on. No more personal sacrifices for my self-serving coworkers. They all showed their true colors during the pandemic. Cowards.

60 days notice is standard practice. Sometimes you work it, sometimes no.

No employee selected for the involuntary layoff will be allowed to work beyond the date of notification. They will be told to turn in their company equipment immediately and be given the bum’s rush off the property.

They have to make sure you do a proper job handover including completing the checklist! Plus it ensures that you contribute to the UW for 2 months!

If you are knowing you are laid off, you are on payroll and can to spend your time looking for jobs while being employed.

What are they going to do, fire you for looking elsewhere during this? People have been doing this while WFH.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies (I.e. not the one that labeled me toxic , that person needs to look into a mirror after they remove their nose from their managers behind), they will see a toxic person with a brown nose.

Working and being on the payroll are two different things. You may be on the payroll until February but relieved of your duties well before that.

You will get all accrued vacation plus have income before SPOSA. Medical too.

if there's still a shred of reasoning left in the management team, they would rather let you go immediately and just collect two more months of salary. what kind of id–t will expect any efficiency and output from an already-laid-off employee?
