Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Can we buy our used laptops/phones

Those leaving Chevron- have you heard if it will be possible to keep (buy) our laptops And phones from the company? Understand they would want to sweep company info but would be so much easier than having to start over.

@1oma, Maybe one day you’ll understand that when someone treats you like sh!t, you reciprocate and treat them the same. Drop your iPhone in the toilet, then return it to them before leaving the company. You’ll feel better that you did.

@1dvg So you are espousing destroying property that does not belong to you because you did not get the ‘care’ you mistakingly feel you were ENTITLED? Grow up. The company is not your mother or your uncle. It’s not there to give you “care.’ It there to make a profit. The company was your employer. It’s a simple equation, really. And it goes like this; In exchange for your talent and time it gave you wages that you earned which you gladly accepted. The company never guaranteed you employment for life. You had no right to destroy property that belongs to its shareholders, including me and many others on this forum. If it were up to me I would have you pay the cost to replace the phone and the damages and harm you caused its shareholders.

Chevron provides you with instructions on how to keep the phone number. I didn’t want mine. It is easy enough to switch to a new number and make a clean break.

There is a law that has been passed that allows you to keep the phone number, it’s part of your identity now in the née tech world. So you can transfer the number you should be able to transfer the contacts as well. Go buy a new phone or activate an old phone you have transfer the data to it. You may have to get a bee number until the old number can be transferred to you new personal phone. Go to an At&t or verision store they can help you with this. Chevron should have a form or something for you to fill out to let you keep the number as it’s a law they have to give it to you if you request it.

No @1dia, that was a reflection of how much Chevron cares about its best employees. We should all drop our company phones in the toilet before turning them in.

After being laid off in 2016, on my last day in the office, I turned in my company iPhone in after “accidentally” dropping it in the toilet. Ooops!

My phone and laptop have been obsolete for a few years. They will make someone a great paperweight.

When I left it was "No" and "No" on each of those, and 'no' no pun it's not a dumb question. I was told I could roll over work # for a new cell I bought for personal use, however, phone IT folks delayed so long in admin roll over, it was too late. I was also stunned the day I turned in phone and notebook how disorganized 1500 LA st folks were in 'signing out' for last day. Even security was going to let me walk out with my badge, LOL.

Some the responses on here are unbelievable. If we were all sitting around a conference table, I feel like the answers would be more civil.

Find something better to do with your time.

Some people buy cheap because it suits their lifestyle. Nothing wrong with that.

Back in the day Texaco would auction off surplus equipment to the employees. I remember picking up a pretty good Mac for like $200.

I don’t know why you’d want a GIL laptop? I did keep my Company phone with permission from my TL. It was a few years old so out of date to be of any use to the Company. Got it reset Certs removed etc. Also before I left in 2017 I signed up for Chevrons AT&T Employee discount plan which I am still on today. Fact

If you don’t have enough money to buy your own laptop you’re better off leaving and looking for a better job that pays more.

Ive always kept work and personal phone distinctly separate. The idea of cross ‘contamination’ makes me wheezy, a larger metaphor for work and life in general too I’m sure.

I was using the company cell phone as my personal phone as well. It was basically just a free phone that the company paid the Monthly bill for.

I knew they could access it at any time but I really had nothing to hide, so I didn’t care. However, it started to become a pain because I started wanting apps that I couldn’t get or download because it was a “company phone. “ All my friends and family had my work number as “my” number.

I finally just broke down and bought my own phone and ported over my work number and used my personal phone as a work phone too, except I could download what I wanted. It was better but the downfall was I had to pay the monthly Verizon bill.

If your being let go you still might be able to keep you work Cell number but your less likely to have someone in IT assist you in porting over the company number. I was able to do it because at the time I was transferring jobs and departments and I had someone help “release” my existing number so I could set it up with my new department, but I set up a personal plan instead.

Anyway, good luck!

Why would you not want to buy your own laptop? If cost is your problem then you are in bad shape to be thrown out of the life boat. Wash dishes, go to night school - anything to bolster your worth and income.

Got my phone number transferred to me over a year ago since I wanted to keep the number. Don't think there's enough time (or people to assist) to get that done now

For your phone it should all be uploaded to the cloud but remember if it’s a 100% company phone and your using chevron outlook contact as your contacts they will all be removed

Doubt it- chevron needs to keep all of these so they can stack them in a closet.
