Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Record income after layoffs

isn't it great that after RJ lays off over 500 employees they report record earnings. Glad we could help. I don't know how these VP's can sleep at night after letting us go knowing most of us will never find an similar job. https://www.tampabay.com/news/business/2020/10/28/after-announcing-layoffs-raymond-james-posts-record-annual-revenues/

Record revenue for Raymond James....right after the layoffs. Could you not see the record earnings coming? You said they were "unavoidable". Really? With record earnings?

These comments are right on the money. Although there is no "good" way to lay people off there are more "diplomatic" ways that could have been used. I remember when I was pushed to put RJ email on my phone. Didn't think twice about it. I to lost all contacts and most of my calendar. I will never mix personnel and work again.

Just read the last 2 comments and agree with team. After more than 10 years I was "kicked out" when I really needed my job but that's the way in today's corporate America, all in the name of profits.

It felt awful being laid off after a quick Zoom meeting but then I thought at least it was not at the office where someone from HR or security escorts you to your cubicle to get your personal things and then out to the street while your coworkers just watch :-(

I agree there was no dignity on how we were laid off. There was no time to say good-bye, no time to grab some email addresses or phone numbers. Two minutes after my zoom termination, my laptop locked up, another minute later and my RJ email disappeared on my phone along with most of my contacts and calendar which was all linked. It took me many days to get the numbers and emails of those I wanted to stay in touch with. Two that I did not get were for my immediate manager and the manager above which were the two that termed me. After over 10 years I thought I deserved a little better than this. I hope all that are still at RJ and reading these posts remember. Remember to never keep your sick time as a large number since you lose it when you are termed, try to get your vacation up to a years worth so that when it is your turn to be let go you will have some extra pay. Don't count on anyone, don't volunteer for anything, don't empower yourself to go above and beyond, keep your blinders on, stare straight ahead and do only what you are directed to do, don't think, it does no good.

It's sad to see that 500 of us were laid off during these difficult times. I am not a financial expert but I do not think it was absolutely necessary for RJ to do that to avoid a major crisis. Also I cannot say that the low performers were laid off and the best performers remain. I see that several good people were laid off many with several years of good service.

Yes we got a severance package and I am glad. I am in my late 50s and after working at RJ for more than 2 decades I was hoping to retire from there with some "dignity" and not via a quick Zoom lay off script. Yes there were happy moments during my career at RJ and that's why it hurts that I was discarded in less than 10 minutes regardless of decades of hard work.

Record revenue does not equal record earnings.

It’s all just beyond sickening. All on the backs of the 550 they laid off, and now the ones left behind to try to manage an unmanageable workload.

RJ also just received one of the Top Employers for 2020 award in Florida.

Agreed, not sure how anyone still there can trust Paul Reily, Paul Shoukry, or anyone else at the executive level. It's all about the stock price and their stock options at this point.

Wow! Disgusting. That's all I can even manage at this point.
