Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Life After Nike

My experiences at Nike gave me an appreciation for the various benefits of working for an industry leader (not just the compensation). But also found that the kind of people drawn to an industry leader were not necessarily the ones who you’d want as lifelong friends. In 16 years, experienced both the best managers I had every worked for, and some of the worst. At the end of the day (career?), it’s all about personal integrity and economic survival. Lucky if you can leave Nike on your own terms. But the reality is that with PHK gone, Nike is rudderless. So for those who spent decades, only to be shown the door, my heart goes out to you. For the next generation, Nike is an example of how an ever changing and chaotic business climate makes it that much important to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST AND FOREMOST! Always be on the lookout for your next opportunity. Maximize your savings. Prioritize your family time. A good manager will appreciate that, along with a strong work ethic.

I got laid off after 5 years and I’m really struggling to cope. I stupidly thought I was going to retire there. I was doing well, working hard and being told all the right things. I know I can find another job bht in so scared of it not being as good. I’m freaked out by the change and shattered at the unfairness of it.

“You’ve had a good run” told to me after 28 years at NIKE by someone in HR who I don’t know and knows Nothing about me. Here is some coaching tips for the soulless doing the letting go.
Just STFU and deliver the news without the bs sympathy.

I am happy to have worked there for most of my career. Great friends and teammates and working on great projects.

But, the place is unrecognizable to where it came from....and I am glad and relieved to move forward. Look no further than FACEBOOK, AMAZON, ABC,TWITTER, Nike etc. CAPITALISM is consuming DEMOCRACY.

To those good people that remain.
Try to get help if you have any continuing survivors guilt. If it remains and the place s—s start looking for a new job when things start opening up again.

Peace to everyone and hope we all get through this election with no violence.

Ex Nike for a few years... 20 years there myself and these posts are spot on.

Life beyond is better. You’ll be valued, heard and respected. Take those lessons, that time and leap forward.

We have one life. ... they’re just shoes and clothes.

Nike is just a company that sells shoes. It’s not your entire life. If you have made it your entire life then you have to brace yourself when it could all come crashing down.
Take your well earnt experience and flourish elsewhere. You will be more appreciated, express your talent and get the fulfillment that Nike has chipped away from you each year you ‘stay for the brand’.
There are many great companies out there who will respect and reward you. You know you deserve more so go out and get it! Stop wasting away and stop turning the other cheek. You owe yourself more!!
