Kind of crazy to see Nike posting job openings while laying off so much talent... I don’t understand why companies don’t offer employees to move internally before laying off in times of covid

@1ybs They cut Product people but not necessarily their positions. They just moved Merch into the roles. It’s BS. The Product people (in partnership with Design & TD, of course) are responsible for the product that is driving the success of the company. Brand Merch & Global Merch were useless, yet were prioritized.
It's so weird that many of the product people got cut - people who actually help design shoes and apparel in it's starting phases, while tech/digital keeps expanding and expanding. When you don't have any more people to design product, what are they going to sell?
I hope they don't let JB manage the large Tech investment. We all know what happened the last time...lots of money spent with no results or accountability. Just a lot of promotions.
Fingers crossed they do a better job this time.
No one should be surprised by this. Donahoe and Sr Leadership told The Street they would be making “significant investments in technology to fuel the new era of Nike growth...” Combine that with COVID—great excuse to move faster against those goals. The people don’t matter.
For anyone trying to understand, there’s no method to this madness. Hiring and firing is part of the bullying culture we have come to expect at Nike. How else would you keep the sheep in line? Creating fear and anxiety is one way, carrot and stick is another. The irony is that what goes around comes around. No one is safe and therefore poor treatment on some will have a domino effect on the company. A lot of those impacted were great employees with families to support, those who remain or are being hired on - take note ....., could be you sooner than later
@trp that was one of the main goals of CDA - move money spent on talent to tech...i am just worried a lot of tech jobs going to move to poland and india...big nike tech offices there getting much bigger.
In spite of the company line that roles are being eliminated, It is a fantastic opportunity for those in power to settle any existing vendettas under the guise of whatever three letter Org change is in vogue at the moment...
