We’ve come full circle from the 1983 oil crash which reshaped the industry through mergers and bankruptcies when hundreds of thousands lost their careers. Gulf Sohio Amaco Texaco Arco and Mobil were all major integrated oil companies in 1983 that were “Merged” into Chevron Exxon and BP. Reorgs downsizing and mergers were a constant occurrence for 20 years until oil prices ticked up about 2003. For instance a 50% lay-off of Chevron USA Exploration happened in 1991. The only good thing was if you could not get canned you always had a very nice salary and an interesting job. Many of the laid off geologists went on to teach geology in high schools or environmental geology. None I am aware of ever rehired.

We wouldn't have had to shut down for 9 months if goddam id–ts would wear a freaking mask. You clowns still don't get it do you? You can't be anti mask and then whine aboutu the economy shutting down. Low IQs and poor logic skills go hand in hand.

Wow. This is funny people are acting shocked about this effecting all areas of jobs when you sh– down everything and limit what people can do for 9 months.

Think about it. Are you really surprised that this effected all businesses.

What do you think will happen if taxes are raised on all businesses............ do you think they will hire more people?

I'm told there was a time in the 60's and 70's when geo-types drove taxi cabs as a 2nd income. Then the price of oil shot up and they became the highest paid scientists in industry. Seems like everything comes full circle. It won't happen for another ten years, but if the switch to alternatives continue, it will.

Won’t be long before oil industry jobs are considered as low-income.
