Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Best situation to handle layoffs

If you are laid off, your best hope is that the economy is in good shape which will automatically mean that there will be more job openings available for you to move on to. It also means that there will be a healthy number of recruiters and recruiting companies ready to "help" you.

In a weak economy the openings are drastically reduced and there are many more people around seeking the fewer opportunities that are available. The recruiters also don't fare well in this kind of environment and so there are fewer of them around as well.

So while people can scoff at the economy as an issue, it is a huge issue, especially when you don't have a job! It goes without saying that hand-outs from the government will never come close to what you can make by being gainfully employed on a job.

It's therefore important to look at the factors that "enable" a healthy economy, which is an environment of low taxation, sensible low regulation, and a general focus on developing new business as well as "expanding" existing businesses.

Success is an attitude and a frame of mind, it is not a right.

@jwf+17JRUiwi, and others - this post is about what the best situations are to BE Laid-off in! Being laid-off is a reality - you can sit around, sulk, and blame everyone and anyone you want but the reality will be that you will not have a job! From what I've seen the BEST performers also get laid-off for various reasons which are sometimes quite bewildering. If you are laid-off you will need to do get another job - so yes, success IS a state of mind - it's how you handle it and WHAT you do about it.

Whoa there OP, what's with this kitchen table psychology after a few drinks?
Where did you read this, Hoss?

And total BS on definition of Success.
Attitude and frame of mind is all it takes?
Tell that to all the laid off people that were top performers and still got canned.
Gee, why didn't we think of that, instead of working our fingers to the bone to be in the top 5%?

Who cares whether you think Success is a right or not.
But Success IS a DIRECT result of competence and hard work on the RIGHT thing.
That is why this company has NOT been successful for a long time.
The employees are told to work hard on the wrong things by the incompetent leadership.

But oh wait, I need to adjust my attitude and mindset..
"Oh, it will be so awesome when we win the race to the BOTTOM!
I'm even wearing my lucky Flashdance legwarmers!
And when we get there, I will do my superstar victory dance...
And here's my special cheer that I developed:
Stank, Stank, he's The Man! If he can't do it, noone can!!"

YAY... Pompoms waving... The crowd swoons ...

"low taxation?" 41 billion to T only to eliminate 50,000 jobs. I fail to see the benefit other than taking money from the tax PAYER to give to BIG CORPORATIONS to benefit the ELITE at the expense of the WORKING person.

BTW, this is no place to post about politics
