Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What happens to SENIORITY when we move to NEWCO?

Anyone heard officially if seniority is carried over to the new company?!?

"...you shouldn't be joining newco anyway? leave. ..."

True, we should all have become doctors, lawyers, business folks or MBA's on the board and making these decisions rather than be subject to them...

But we were the dummies the chose Corp. USA for employment, in a field that looked good at one time. (And may still look good in the right places.)

So survival is about to be challenged for many of us, it would seem.

Beware of a "spill and fill" action in these circumstances. all sacked unless you can interview successfully or are a made man with connections or a unique set of "mad skills" AND accept revised Ts&Cs.

You will get a FORTUNE COOKIE for every 10 yrs of service at IBM. Make sure you read 'your future' carefully tucked away in that cookie!

Seniority NEVER meant anything to IBM Management except that the Older and Higher Paid were the most likely employees to be Resourced.
One other point to think about is when IBM created TSS back in the 1990's and EVERYONE that was moved to TSS had to Apply for their New/Old Job. It wasn't a move without a catch, if you weren't approved, you didn't have a job with TSS OR IBM.

There is no playbook. If you can afford to wait it out, I would do so and see what happens. What have you got to lose. In the end, IBM will not do you right so lay in the weeds and see what happens. You might get a small package.

I like the name Nukeco Yep I believe double dipping will be what saves Nukeco They have to lower their overhead, and drawing an IBM pension for a large portion of the employees for a transition is just the ticket to hire folks who’s primary interest isn’t cash, but employment/healthcare. Bain had a chart on this back in 2019 when they suggested IBM break GTS off. They are now following that playbook. Healthcare is ranked higher on employee sat surveys than pay. IBM will raid the old pension plan and hire older worker back at 75 - 80 cents on the dollar. It’s a win/win

retired from IBM on Friday and Monday were working for the new company

So NukeCo might be staffed by retirees?

What will be interesting to see is how they handle people who can/do retire. I know in the past when they sold off areas to other companies I had friends who retired from IBM on Friday and Monday were working for the new company. They were collecting their IBM pension and making the same pay at the new company. I wonder how that will work when IBM creates a new company.

In their shady wiki Q&A I remember reading the vague wording, "should" or "most likely" keep.
I'm no lawyer, but that lingo does not seem to be a guarantee in my book.
If anyone has any further information on this please post.
A wiki Q&A section is hardly something anyone should be referencing for a definitive answer.

If they follow the GF playbook You walked out on Friday as an IBM’er and walked back in on Monday as a New GF employee. All of your time served at IBM ended on Friday and started new with GF on Monday.

I'm asking about years of service, are they retained, management here doesn't know.

Not an issue since as per usual process, Seniority will be laid off before anybody goes to NukeCo.

Do you mean band level or number of years of service?
