Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

I thought raytheon would be better. Nope. (ISC)

Manufacturing in aero and defense is the same everywhere. Thought i would visit old haunts and give some insight into what i found after moving. Here is a quote from raytheon @OP+17rLRm6K that pretty much sums up my experience so far.

Found out that some upper level UTC folks came through our shop recently. ( I know we are all RTX now but it was only a matter of time before some legacy UTC big wigs came through). They said our building and processes are 15-20 years behind the times, the building is outdated and our run times are entirely to long. Also found out that 3 new machines we got in a month or so ago just got shut off by the people we ordered them from. Come to find out we haven’t even paid for them yet so they shut the machine off remotely until we pay for them.

Message here is any business that is older than a startup and too big to know everyones name is the same.

And for the sprinkles lets add some criminal mischief on top https://www.courant.com/business/hc-biz-raytheon-subpoena-20201028-ugzfxm6a5na5jf2wbqn6swbjyi-story.html

Miss you guys.

In 100% sure what the UTC heads said was true. The differences between Honeywell's engines/APU assembly shop and a
Pratt's shop are stunning.

A lot of colleagues have taken their chances elsewhere and are happier, others are leaving soon, they don’t care anymore....

I believe the merger with UTX will mean the old Raytheon is gone. Any merger like this is for cost cutting purposes. The finance guys slowly start to take over and call the shots. I worked at Raytheon for a while 2015-2018, pre merger. Typical government work, lots of folks working on gov contracts / complliance, slow motion, and a lot of really smart engineers doing incredible stuff. Production schedule came in 3rd behind these 2. Never felt any pressure on meeting a schedule, emphasis was on getting it right. Very much like Engineering project work or development work. And Ray was very family friendly and actually did value employees time off. I enjoyed my time there and met a lot of friendly people. I think those days are going by the wayside

50 years ago when I was a young whipper snapper working at GE on Nuclear Power Control Systems, I was told by a senior employee, look around see all these guys and girls in suits and with their heads down elbows out, and few other choice words... They are all salary id–ts. I continued to listen, he said don't fall into the trap, be a contractor, set your price and don't worry about being loyal, worry about getting paid. And he was right. I have worked for startups, huge corporations, some for long periods of time +10 years others for a year, some for a few months. There is always another position somewhere else, when I was young I jumped time and again +20% increase in salary every time. Then once I had reached a plateau, I started jumping when I finished a project to move on to something new and exciting somewhere else, because the same old same old was boring. But several times I had set backs, guess what, I went back to the previous company, time and again. Why, number one rule, do not burn bridges, bite your tongue on the way out the door. I played the "let's tell them everything that is wrong, to fix things" once when HR asked for an exit interview, because they were dumb founded that I quit a week after a 20% salary increase internally. I politely declined. If your not having fun, JUMP. If your not making enough money, JUMP. You need to polish your resume, if you don't know how to find a job, use a head hunter, if you make more than 100k/yr try ladders.com, if you make less, search Glassdoor and LinkedIn. Hell do that anyway. Grow your network on LinkedIn. I have had more people reach out to me for new positions on LinkedIn than anywhere else.
