Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Next year will be bad

Am I the only one who thinks that the full impact of COVID-19 on car sales will not be known until the next year and when it is - we'll all be screwed?

No you are not alone. I still recall a town hall two years ago when our VP came right out and said there will be a 25% HC reduction over the next three years worldwide.

You are not alone, cause we are literally at the mercy of governments that don’t seem to like us very much - and by us I mean auto manufacturers.

If we stay at the same level of openness we are at about now in the US, Ford will be ok due to our strength in North America. However, if we go back to the draconian measures earlier in the year, then yeah all bets are off.

Don’t care what side of the fence you are in either for politics or even the actual impact of COVID, locking down an entire economy in any country in a sh–ty long term solution- and we are rapidly approaching a year of dealing with this issue. Lock downs are not the long term solution, so some risks have to be managed and taken else many of us will end up living lives like those do in 2nd/3rd world countries. I’ve been to a few of them outside the major cities, and it is not pretty how the people live. You’ll need to get used to living with less overall..

The house of cards will fall, when is unknown. It will be rough when it happens.
Our competitors are prepared. Despite our former CEO yammering on about Fitness, we are not prepared. We are still feasting on Hostess Ding Dongs and HoHos, and our fitness reflects the feasting.

Nope, you’re not the only one. There are many people whose jobs were impacted by COVID that are still getting unemployment. The unemployed don’t likely buy new cars but they do buy food and other necessities which keeps some money circulating through the economy. If unemployment dries up before COVID quiets down there will be yet another economic ripple effect. I hope we’re wrong!
