Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Disgust in Footwear

I find it such BS that PMs buddy gets to stay as a Senior Director in Footwear. This person has a known HR allegation against him for harassing a woman. HR recommended that he be fired awhile ago. But what did PM do? Move the woman out, lay-off the manager who knows about the incident and promote him to a better Sr Director role. It is such BS. Goes to show, it’s who you know in the Good ole boys club at Nike.

IMHO JD is the problem here. I think he might be one if the biggest proponents of getting rid of women in the workplace. This is merely an opinion but his D&I garbage he keeps spewing doesn’t align with what we are seeing.

The person who wrote this "They promoted people who were undeserving. And the men in charge especially in apparel are the problem. The head is rotten." is spot on.

I agree. They kept women who were yes people. The truth is you can have a strong opinion and even be a jerk there if you are a man. But if you are a woman you must NEVER seem “difficult”. You must never have too strong of an opinion. You must never seem too confident. Basically you can’t be a real leader. And yes, they put people in roles they don’t want. They demoted people. They let go of people that were doing incredibly well. The promoted people who were undeserving. And the men in charge especially in apparel are the problem. The head is rotten.

Agreed, a lot of experienced female talent let go. Many female leaders that are left got promoted, although in leadership roles are still being managed by MEN. These women have been drinking the nike koolaid for years, they do whatever they are told to do, they preach the script. It has been embarrassing to see women in leadership roles act giddy, toss their hair in meetings, and clearly laugh along with the boys to fit in. Embarrassing that these women can't be in their own skin and be themselves. What they don't realize is the Men really don't care they will always be in the power seat. How many women are on the board? What is the percentage of women in the ELT vs men?
Many of these women left have been taking credit for all their teams work while they spend their working hours working on home remodels versus attending working meetings. These women attend all the VIP meetings first, anything to look important to leaders, tge VIP meetings over tuning into their teams and supporting their teams. These women are first to pass the blame onto their teams when the going is tough versus leading and troubleshooting.
Women have the courage to be real and raw leaders.

I hate to be rude but when it comes to women there a lot has to do with how many boxes you check. Yes some is performance but some is also strictly a diversity game.

It’s sad because over the last 2 rounds of layoffs a LOT of very qualified and capable women have been laid off.

This is what I have come to realize in the last year. I’ve been at Nike for 5 years and was just laid off. After the initial grieving I’ve realized that this is not a company for women. They took out every strong woman I know and decimated the women’s leadership team. It’s appalling and not surprising. If you are a female, take your skills somewhere else that will appreciate and reward you.
