Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

There is a reason why we survive

The main value that the experienced employees have over the younger is their relationships with senior management. The ability to bypass the young managers and go directly to a VP or even Dallas. Many of us older professionals mentored our current senior management and we survive layoffs because MANAGEMENT TRUSTS US. We delivered during the dark days of Valdez and we carried the load during past downturns and we survived many workforce reductions and reorganizations. I cannot tell you how many times I have been called directly to see if a manager gave the right explanation. The younger folks do not have the relationships ....yet. They will allow us to retire when WE WANT. Many of us give feedback to senior leadership on our own bosses.

All these verbs, OP.
Mentor, Deliver, Survive.
Those are old times.
You use the term Bypass as a verb also.
It is a noun.
Get one while the company can afford it.

Also for the record it might be worth noting that the company literally is too broke to pay to get you off the books. Why are we so broke? Sure Covid. But also decades of terrible investments that the older gen is responsible for.

Survivorship bias. You wrongfully claim your presence is evidence of your past success. I’m reality you are just one of a handful of survivor of your collective past failures.

OP - I don't know if you realize that you have been a department mole for a long time. Folks like you enables our backstabbing culture.

The real reason we survived was oil came out of ground and people paid silly money for that oil. All we did was being arrogant to others while having a pretty brown nose and avoiding snitch like YOU.

“Many of us older professionals mentored our current senior management”

  • Looks like you did a poor-job of mentoring. The company went from #1 valued by market -cap to getting kicked out of the Dow Jones, getting the credit-rating downgraded and the downward spiral continues.
