Am I the only one who's scared of layoffs because I enjoy my job and would hate to lose it? Because judging by the posts here, most people are hanging on just because they don't have an alternative. There is nothing wrong with that, I'm just surprised that so few are here because they want to be.

@mrv+17LuGFxE Well said. The job (science/ technology) by itself would be great, but the management ruins it.
I wouldn’t say I “enjoy my job” ... it’s work, and I work (hard) to live, not the other way around. If let go, I will miss my fellow team members who I have a lot of respect for. I feel like I’m a good fit where I’m at, but may be found redundant. Time will tell.
Yes, if you get yourself highly leveraged, this happens. You find it hard to disassociate yourself with the EM brand, because we are arrogant and don't recognize any other brands.
Considering the people silently cut and forced to retire over the last three years your looking just like everyone else.
I am a true believer... Frankly, we'll have to bounce back and our cuts so far have not been that deep.
Keep in mind that we are an amazing company no mattere what, some bad bets were made but other than that we are looking better than anyone else.
Many are hanging on to a paycheck but it’s a trade-off. Some good employees endured years of being beat down by bullies for that paycheck. Xom was practically built around intimidation. This behavior has been rewarded for decades.

Morale was low before COVID. You must be new.
@mrv+17LuGFxE You have so accurately described what I have witnessed for at least the past five years. People that have decades with the company seem so beat down from being bullied. They were paid well so they stayed but clearly it is damaging.
You are not alone
OP - ask yourself this question: “Would you go to work tomorrow, if you were to win $5MM in lottery tonight?” 99% of people will say they wouldn’t! That is your answer.
You will see the dark side in a few years young Padwan. All here had the twinkle in their eyes, you have now.
Only to replace that twinkle with tears through years hearing how useless their efforts have been, how poorly they have been performing, how whatever you do does not move the needle, how they did not get the job they have been doing because some well connected drone needed that job.
